First pics of SIG 553-US carbine. Time to get excited?

We all know the SIG USA made 556 sucks for many reasons.

Well what would happen if Swiss Arms decided to make a 55x carbine that took AR15 mags, and had an ambi mag release. Wouldn't that kick ass!!!

Now this is what the 556 really should have been.

Is this made by SIG USA, or it's foreign counterpart?

I'd still rather have swiss mags and the stamped lower.

I don't see how this is 922r compliant with just a new lower, so it would be a SBR dealer sample.

I had that same rifle in my hands this weekend It`s from the IWA in Nürnberg.

I kinda prefer the look of the standard Sig 55X rifles, but if this is what they have to do to get them into the USA AND they take AR magazines, I´d say that´s a pretty interesting rifle

PS: I also met Rob Leatham at the IWA and bothered him for an autograph. He told me he was going to the local SEK (SWAT) to teach some firearms training after the IWA.

If it's made by the NH group, then no, absolutely no interest...

I'd be all over it, but odds are it will never drop stateside.

I am sorta hoping the release of the SCAR 16S and HK MR556 will make Swiss Arms rethink their position on USA sales and how SIG USA conducts business.

Wishful thinking on my part.

They aren't welded on real SIGs. There are mounting points for the rail.

That is really interesting. The lower is trully "In the white".

Is there some govt contract out there that this is aimed for, why else go with AR15 mags?

It has my eye, but any real possibility of fruition?
And it would have been nice if they made the mag release reachable.

Wholly cow-nice! It's like a real Swiss 556 classic lower. If only somebody had made this a couple of years ago and it cost a lot less...oh wait.

What good is it if they are just copying SigUSA? Won't it be tainted by then? What makes this better than a 556? Looks like Vaporware to me.

Interesting - I thought that was the reverse. Learn something every day.

There was a run of 552s that had both the diopter rear and a welded-on optics rail. A dealer friend of mine had one.
