I hate to give LaRue credit, but....

I love the LaRue Rail covers/Index Clips. I've seen them on the boards every so often and finally ordered a set. They are nice, and really mellowed out my DD Cheese grater!

I've wondered about them, how do they fair against heat? Shot much with them yet?

Just put them on last night.. so no shooting yet... but I've ran with nothing and the ladder covers and the heat wasn't an issue with either of those scenarios, so I don't see it being a problem.

I also had the XTMs on there, but those things were sharp and a pain.

only reason i've never invested is that they look like they'd be prone to falling off easy- they on there pretty good?

i've grown a huge pile of XTM covers... generally gets me about 90% happy. but for all their improvement in versatility, you still can't usually put them exactly where you want them, if you want your light and VFG exactly where you want them.

They're actually pretty solid once on (they take some muscle to apply). I haven't put them through a hard class yet but I don't see how they will come off easily.

I'd say they're on there significantly tighter than either ladders, or the XTM panels.

I also like them, but I do wish they had some more texture (ala MIAD), but I guess that is what Stippling is for

For the money they really provide a lot of options, the pieces for tucking wires is a nice touch

1. If you have used the Magpul XTMs, how do the Index Clips compare to the XTMs? (shape, grip texture, and heat protection)

2. Did you feel a weight difference after adding the clips? I have an uninstalled 12in rail and I completely covered the sides and bottoms with XTMs to try them. I could definitely feel the weight of 21 XTM pairs. Thinking of going with XTMs in the area I'd most likely grab the rail and ladder covers or clips everywhere else.

EDIT: I see you didn't like the XTMs and havent shot with the clips yet.

Are they a hard plastic like the KAC covers or more like ladder covers?

I see people saying they're tight, that's great but is there any play in them when on a rail? That's my main complaint with XTMs, that regardless of whether it's the out-of-spec rail's fault, they can have a bit of play in them when mounted.

I use them to a secure scout light tape cord on my scar and they have bee very solid. Admittedly, they are on a top rail where my hand doesn't reach so I don't know how they'll hold to any other use.

All good questions... that I was wondering too...

They are hard like a KAC panel, slimmer and narrower however. The pop on pretty easily with your fingers, but don't come off too easily. You use the dill hole bottle openner to get them off.

The wire loom pieces can be pulled off with your fingers.

There is NO PLAY with them on the rail. They are much smoother than the XTMs which have sharp corners. You could stipple them up for more grip, but I'm cool with them just as they are.

There is no play that I can detect.

I have been using LaRue Index Clips for a while now. I love them. They are certainly more flexible as far as placement possibilities over just about any other panel. They are hard plastic. Fast and easy to install and take some work to get off with your fingers. Better to use something to pry them off. That translates into "they stay on unless you want them off."

These are lighter than the XTM for sure. They are not as big or "full" like the KAC panels and the like. So they are more slim. They offer just as much "grip" as KAC or XTM panels. Yes you could stipple them.

The benefit to the Index Clips is that you can use them to run your switch cables and it will lock you cable(s) in place.

I really love them and I think they have more to offer then just about any other rail covers out there.

They come in different colors as well. I run the FDE, but they come in usual Magpul colors.

I use them as well and have never had any of them fall off during carbine classes. Not that they are high intensity or anything, but its a better measuring stick than a bench & bag I 'spose. I like how they round off, almost like a half moon, it makes my rail feel, uh.. rounder.

I have them as well. Height is almost same as XTM, maybe just tad slimmer. And made with same hard polymer plastics as other rail covers. (KAC, XTM, Tangdown, Troy, ....)

They will not fall off you on, it locks very secure to the rail. You can't remove it by hand, you must use Larue tool to remove it. (That animal thing) lol

i've never had anything more than the ittiest bittiest amount of movement with XTMs on any of the 6-8+ rails i've put them on.. nothing noticeable unless you're deliberately trying to move them.

Thanks for the info guys. I looked at them before on LaRue’s website but I guess I missed the part about being able to secure tape switch cables. For $30 I’ll have to give them a try.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the write up markm!
And you other guys who run these with the feedback.

I've been eyeballing these.
I like how slim they are.
I'm glad to hear they don't come off easily, as that is what's been holding me back.

Lol, I don't think he's that far gone. It looks like a Daniel Defense.
