Gouges on the Buffer face

On the buffer of my carbine there are two gouges on the face of my buffer. I've identified that the cause is that the base of the BCG is scraping the buffer face when you open up the rifle and the lower gouge is caused by the buffer retainer. Here's a pic:

It is a BCM Carbine upper and BCM BCG on a Stag Lower. The color on the lower is paint, I was bored, curious and had a can of rustoleum.

I'm not too worried about it because I can't imagine that something cosmetic would cause a malfunction, but is this a common thing? Is something significantly out of spec?

I wouldn't worry about it.

Happens all the time. What's happening is that steel is scraping off the coating/anodizing on the buffer, exposing bare aluminum... but aluminum doesn't oxidize same as steel. Once the exposed material oxidizes, it doesn't "rust through," but instead blocks more air from exacerbating the condition.

So no worries.

I just wonder if something is out of spec. I haven't seen it on any of my other buffers. I looked for a burr on the bottom the BC but didn't see anything.

I've seen it on at least 4K rifles/carbines. I have never seen it cause a functioning problem. This happens because there's a burr on the back end of the carrier.

This has been covered before and it's not an issue.
