Gear Sector Light Mount
I've had two Gear Sector E Series light mounts. Really nice mount. Light weight and low profile. Had problems with both of them though. I have sent Gear Sector an email about this just as an FYI.
Just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem.
One mount would not fit, slide on, my new Centurion rail. It would slide on my Troy and Noveske (SWS). Thought it was a rail problem at first.
The other one would not fit on any of the three rails.
When trying to fit these on, it became obvious that the mount had a high spot on the large flat surface that contacts the picatinny rail. Rather than going through the hassle and expense of sending these back, and being the resorceful guy that I am , I used a flat and triangular file to fit these on the rails.
Turned out really well. Had to take the larger flat surface down to bare aluminum over the whole surface.
This is not intended to bash Gear Sector in any way. Really like their stuff. I would like to know if anyone else has had this problem. Also just a FYI to show what I did to correct it.

Yeah, with both a G2-series mount and their handstop, which was extremely tight on a Troy MRF and an SWS rail, but fit on a Knights. My solution was the same, for the same reasons; I think that that flat area isn't cut deep or perhaps flat enough to fit on everything.
Still like and use the mount. How's that PD30 working out as a weapon-mounted light?

There is more to the spec for a picatinny rail than most people think.
It's interesting to hear the lists of rails that people have trouble getting the mounts on vs. the ones that they don't.
I had some interesting experiences with this and spent HOURS measuring a variety of rails. Came up with interesting results.

I have the same mount for a 6PX, it fit just fine on my DD Omega rail. I also have the mini hand grip that fits with no problems.

So far, so good. Button works just like it is supposed to. One click constant on, click again goes to strobe. No problems.
Couple of weeks ago, about ten at night, we a pack of yotes howling and yapping in the field across from the house. Grabbed my rifle and snuck up to some hay bales and lit up the tree line about 75-100 yds away. The yotes had gone by that time but the light lit up the tree line really well. Had plenty of light to make a shot if one was offered.
I know it's not a Surefire but it's worked well for me.
One more thing about the Fenix and this mount. You have to take a flathead screwdriver and pry the opening out to get the light in the mount. This is not a mount issue though. The GS mount is made for .825" light and the Fenix is .85" OD. I didn't think 25 thousanths of an inch would have made that much difference but it did. Still fits fine. Just real tight.

So what were your findings?

I'd like to point out that Jason Trusty with Gear Sector has emailed me back and offered for me to send these mounts back so he could take a look at them and determine what may be the problem. I declined of course as I have fixed the problem. Whether it be rail or mount.
He stated that they have tens of thousands of mounts out there and only 8 have been reported as being a problem fit. Five MI rails and three, including mine, were SWS rails. You'd probably have to include my Troy rail in this as well.

I have the Gear Sector 6P mount from Paul at Loess Hills Tactical. It went on my Centurion rail just like it should. Put an old Pelican M6 in it, and you could conclude all the parts were welded together. It's rock solid. Gun unloaded, you can swing it back and forth from the flashlight. I'm thrilled. I did no research. I just asked Paul to send me a light mount and bill. I couldn't be happier. Unless he'd sent me 2 for 1 on the Eagle Tac light I originally intended to mount there...!
