Rudy Project Genetyk Glasses
A few months ago I was contemplating some new lenses or glasses to replace my Oakleys that I had been wearing for years. The M-Frames I had been wearing at the time were about 6 years old and the polarized lenses in there were about 5 years old.
As luck would have it, I was offered a chance to try out some Rudy Project glasses. I had never heard of Rudy Project to be quite honest and I thought I'd give them a shot.
I received a pair of their "Genetyk" glasses ( http://www.rudyprojectusa.com/index_...id=SP118406S3P) that came in a somewhat large gray zippered case that had 3 sets of lenses. They were Laser Black, Photo Clear and Photo Red. I must be honest I had no idea what the hell Photochromic lenses were. I intially put the Laser Black lenses into the glasses and started wearing them. My eyes took a little to adjust because I had been wearing those polarized lenses for so long.
One day I stuck the Photochromic clear lenses in (unaware of what that meant) and I set them down. I noticed that a few minutes later the lenses had turned dark. Now I was a little dumbfounded and that's when I discovered the value of the Photochromic lenses. They seem to adjust to the light which I found extremely nice. Sometimes I have issues at night with headlights on cars blinding me so I wear them at night. I noticed more and more that I was almost forgetting that I was wearing my glasses because the lenses were so clear with little distortion at all.
On my little foray into Africa at the end of April I really began to appreciate them as I wore them constantly on land and on the water. They proved to be invaluable while I was underway as I was able to wear the glasses while doing lookout without any distortion or worrying about missing something. The clear lenses have become my standard everyday lense and the others are simply sitting in the case collecting dust.
I generally hate wearing eye pro when I shoot (yeah I know it's silly) but it bothers me especially when I am using an ACOG or other type of scope. I can get away with wearing the Rudys' simply because the lenses are so clear and virtually distortion free.
Things I would like to see would be a smaller type of case to carry the glasses and lenses. Although the current one is classy, it is a little large for my tastes. They are a little pricey, but honestly I can't see buying another set of glasses as long as I can get repalcement lenses and whatever else I need.
The same holds true with the M-Frames I was wearing. I wasn't buying new Oakleys every year or even every two years. At the end of the day I think they are excellent glasses that work for shooting, driving and just about anything else during the day. I also find myself less likely to set them down as wear them even when I walk indoors.

I really wanted te get them but glad I went to a retailer To try them on first.
My oakleys fit my big head well but the Rudys were too tight even adjusting them all the way. They seem to put pressure where the oakleys did not.

Which frames did you try? You might want to contact their rep through the forums here. When I was looking into getting some, he answered any question I had. Good guy.

As bulbvivid stated, "which did you try?"
Take a look at the "Temple" size of your Oakleys (stated on the box) and compare that with the Rudys. For example, the said Rudys of Iraqgunz is 133. The Magster that I have is 137 and it fits me perfectly. The Oakleys I have that fit me comfortably are the Straight Jacket, Radar Path, and Flak Jacket.
Granted, each individual's structured face varies one from another.

We offer many frame sizes and styles. According to one thread, an 'overwhelming' number of choices.
If you're willing to do your research (or call me for good info), then lots of choices is a good problem to have. We have a frame/lens configuration for every face shape, size, and tactical application.
Additionally, you can adjust our temple arms and nose pieces for a truly customized fit to your specific face shape.

Well they look pretty bad ass. I like M frames myself just cause they fit my face but these look like the same cut. I could see myself trying them.

I have the photochromic clears in the standard and mirror finish. I like the mirror finish because I use a Rx insert, so the mirror finish hides the inner frame a bit. I used to wear the copper or racing red (the color names confuse me ) but I wear the mirror photochromics all the time for the past month or so.
The only drawback I see with the photochromic is that they are don't work as well while driving. If the lenses aren't in direct sunlight, they don't get as dark- so you can have a bright day outside, but if you are in the shade of the car roof, the lenses don't get that dark. If you are standing outside and you are getting all that light on your face, they get dark.
I still think the photochromics are the best all around solution- they change nice and fast- but for dedicated driving, I would suggest something that is more hard-tinted to the light conditions. Not a problem, takes 30 seconds to change.

For what it's worth, I'm dumping my Oakleys after using the Rudy Projects. I tried the Rydon's, but ended up prefering the Genetyks...both have been the clearest, sharpest glasses I've used.
I thought my Oakleys were perfect, I just didn't have anything to compare them to. I'm done with Oakley, now.

I had a chance this weekend at the 3 day Vickers class to handle several varieties of Rudy's and was very impressed with the quality and versatility of their product. I am a long time high end sunglass guy and will be replacing my Revo's with Rudy's in the near future...
Great product with a great company backing them!

Rudy's are great. I think I cried all the way home from San Jose after realizing I left my Rydon's in the hotel room.
Question on the photochromic lenses. Are they UV sensitive or light sensitive? Iraqguns mentioned them helping with headlights at night which would lead me to think they were light sensitive vs UV sensitive like other photochromic lenses. That would be a HUGE plus for driving since a lot of car glass now has UV filters added so the UV sensitive photochromics dont darken.

I have been back over in Iraq now for about 3 weeks and this is the first time I have worn my Rudy glasses over here. It is extremely hot and bright down south where I am at.
Needless to say my glasses have been working wonders here.

Genetyk
I also got a pair. One think about Rudy's is the clarity is a noticeable difference. I wear mine at every range session. I'm thinking about getting a pair for daily wear that do not scream "shooter".
Thanks again Chris, you guys have a kick-ass product.

My clear lense glasses are my daily wear all the time now. I may switch lenses just because I feel guilty about wearing the others.
