What's wrong with 12.5?

For SBRs, it seems like most people go with 10", 11.5", or 14.5". With the exception of LMT's MRP and some of BCM's offerings, 12.5" has never really caught on to . Is there any particular reason for this? Anything wrong with it?

its was I use. if your not going to run a suppressor, go 12.5, if you are, 11.5 or 10.5 to get it as short as possible.

I have 12.5 for the added velocity gain and gas dwell time gain.

Nothing is wrong with it. There are few offerings to begin with and not that many people are truly up on SBR's.

My Brief Time w/ a 12.5" Noveske Upper

FWIW I had Noveske build me a 12.5" barreled MUR upper w/ a Troy TRX + a SB to run on my SBR lower.

I remain unclear as to whether this will be used exclusively w/ my can, hence the reason for the Switchblock.

Since I received this a short time back I have no feedback to report but that will change shortly w/ an upcoming carb class.

I built a 12.5 SBR. I have no intentions of running a suppressor on it, so the length is perfect. I'm happy with the length and the performance.

I think the 12.5 is about perfect on paper, but I have never had any issues with 10.5-11.5", and after muzzle device it is around 14", granted not much different, but it feels different when you pay $100 an inch for those 2 inches.

In a world without the ATF, I most likely would have a 12.5"

agreed, go big or go home when the ATF is charging you for owning it.

In any case, my work gun is a 10.5" and there's nothing wrong with that or 14.5" which i use also. I'm not sure why 12.5" never caught.

Yea what he said. Not as many companies make them as many go shorter. Personally at some point I plan on getting a 12.5 kino upper. Seems like a great config.

12.5 can be a good length if you are going to run a reflex can. I think they can actually end up around the same length as a 10.5-11.5 barrel with a can mounted.

I will be working on a new 12.5" project that will have a Kino barrel, MUR upper and at some point a Surefire suppressor.

I think that pretty much covers it. I say between 12" and 14" is where a carbine should be, and would be popular without the NFA.

I think the 12.5" is the perfect SBR. If I ever go through getting my SBR it will be a 12.5".

12.5 was the length I was going for whenever I get a chance to go the SBR route.

I went with a 12.5" as well and am getting ready to purchase a Surefire reflex suppressor in the near future.

I've realized I'm going to need a second SBR lower to do what I want to (one with redimag, one without), so I've decided my second lightweight upper might as well be 12.5".
Without the NFA, 12.5" would be a very popular length, right after true 14.5" units.
