Do I have to completely strip the slide

I'm doing the 5000 round maintenance and spring replacement on my beretta 92, about 500 rounds early, but nevertheless, after seeing the directions for removing the safety and firing pin on the gun, I'm a little nervous about losing little bitty parts and such. Do I really have to do more than remove the extractor and clean, or can I get by without it? If I have to, I'll do it. Thanks for any help.

I wouldnt think you would need to replace the spring(s) after 500 rnds even a 1000. I have over 3000 through my M&P and its still good. Maybe here in the near future i might change them..

at 5000 rounds, the only thing you really need to replace is the recoil spring and maybe the trigger spring. I did clean out my extractor, that was a pretty simple job as well.
