NZSAS Trooper Killed in Kabul

I know Americans have lost more than any other country in the GWOT, but my US mates should know that there are many more countries that support the US than don't, at least those that matter anyway.

Rest in Peace Trooper.

NZSAS Trooper Killed in Kabul

22 August 2011

The NZSAS trooper who died during the insurgent attack in Kabul in Friday was Corporal Doug Grant, NZSAS.

CPL Grant died when he was hit by a bullet fired by an insurgent during the attack.

He was a highly regarded member of his unit who had a long and successful career with the NZ Defence Force. Despite the best efforts of our and coalition medics at the scene and en route to Bagram Air Base hospital he could not be saved.

CPL Grant had served in Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment, Royal New Zealand Engineers and the NZSAS. He was 41 years old and had served twice in East Timor, once in the Former Yugoslavia and was on his second tour in Afghanistan. He is married with a 7 year old daughter and 5 year old son.

It's been almost 10 years since the attacks on 9-11. But, one thing I will always remember is hearing the news reports about this country or that country sending their condolences. However, New Zealand came out right away and was one of the first countries to pledge their military support to the United States, and any actions against those responsible for the attack. And for that I will always speak well of New Zealand. New Zealand was always a friend to the U.S.

My thoughts and prayers for Corporal Doug Grant's family.

RIP Warrior.
Fair winds & following seas....
Valhalla awaits.
Catch you on the flipside.

Some of the best Opearators I have had the honor of working with were NZSAS. The KiWi's I know are some the best decent men I know as well.

This is the basic problem with war.

We lose the best men, those who are brave enough to go and won't abandon their fellow soldiers. Yet the politicians remain alive.

Prayers sent for CPL Grant's family, friends, and fellow Troopers.

We are richer for his time here, and poorer for his passing.

Having trained with the British SAS before, I was amazed by how hardcore those men were. Im sure the NZSAS are just the same. Sound like we lost a Spartan out there. Rest in peace.

Yeap, far too many don't know the sacrifice of so many of our allies.

Was reading about that attack at the embassy last Wednesday in Kabul. Looks like the kiwis had a hand in snuffing out the bastards along with other NATO forces. Really hadn't given their presence in this war much thought but they are there and getting their hands dirty. God bless em.

Photos from after the attack:

While I have not had the pleasure of fighting with them during this conflict, I have participated in exercises with them and found them to be very, very tactically aggressive and just a fun bunch of dudes.

This incident occurred while I was in Bagram. They are like the "go to guys" for chasing BGs down and assaulting captured buildings where these fuckers hold up. The Kiwi SAS are always right in the middle of any major fighting in Kabul and always kickin ass and taking names. RIP CPL Grant.
