Daniel Defense barrel nut wrench problem
I ordered a DD barrel nut wrench to remove the nut on my DD upper that has an Omega X 12.0 rail.
Problem is, that wrench doesn't fit that barrel nut. At least not as far as I can tell. It's too small and even if it would fit, the rectangular notches wouldn't fit the circular holes on my barrel nut. I consulted a popular search engine and it looks like the Lite Rail barrel nut looks like this. My barrel nut looks like this:
Am I doing something silly here, or does my upper have a different barrel nut than what the Omega X rail usually comes with? What do I need to do to get this barrel nut off?

I think the new OmegaX come with a different barrel nut than the older ones. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

You need the DD MFR barrel wrench for that barrel nut. You might have mistakenly ordered or they mistakenly sent you a Lite/RISII/Omega-X barrel wrench.

You mean a MFR would have slipped right on here instead of me having to take the upper apart to install this Troy VTAC? I researched the issue before I bought the Troy (and the DD wrench) but found that the Omega X and MFR use a different barrel nut. I guess that changed recently.
I'll give them a call on Monday and see if we can get it sorted. I appreciate the info.
edit: I guess the fact that they use the same wrench doesn't necessarily mean that the nut is the same, so maybe it's not as simple as that.

I'm fairly certain a Lite/RISII/Omega-X can mount on either type of barrel nut. They might be transitioning all of those to the MFR barrel nuts, might be cheaper to make or something.

I like that new nut design. There's no chance that you're set screws will line up with the wrench cuts like on the older design.

I believe all Omega X and Lite rails are now using this new barrel nut. I think I recall about a month ago someone else had the same problem and he called up DD and DD sent him the new barrel nut wrench for free since that person also didn't know he needed the new version of the barrel nut wrench.

The newer Omega X rails are coming with this new barrel nut and are different than older versions. All the ones that I have done recently with the new barrel nuts have come with a wrench adapter in the box. Just did another one last night.

I believe its because depending on how the older barrel nuts were oriented, the rail screws went into the barrel notches.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but my search yielded this only thread with my question. I'm installing an Omega X rail with the newer style barrel nut with the round holes on the long side. DD included a wrench that is shaped like a traditional spanner, but has 3 rectangular tabs on it. I can only get one tab to engage one hole. The middle tab touches nothing and the inner tab bears on the side of the nut...not near a hole. Is this the correct wrench/fit for this barrel nut? The wrench is stamped AR LITE/RIS. This appears that it might work, but will likely mar the nut. Here is a pic of the fit:

Thanks!

The nut that works with that wrench looks like this:
Call DD and get the correct wrench before messing something up.

I spoke with DD and they confirmed what ASH556 said...they are sending me the correct barrel nut wrench. Two thumbs up to Daniel Defense for great customer service!
