The CRKT M16-01MK and Streamlight Stylus Pro are in my pocket anytime I can have a knife on me. The Esee 3 Mil finds its way onto my belt more often than not.

That Esee 3 Mil looks solid.. How do you like it? How does the blade hold up?

It's by far the best knife I have ever owned and I plan on getting a few more from their lineup. The blade has a sharp edge that has yet to falter...I even used it to trim some aluminum burrs off the end of that stream light after it got nicked. Got a good weight to it as well.

SF x300
Holster and mag pouch are Secret City Weaponers (obviously one of the last ones maybe)
Benchmade triage

On duty I carry two lights on my belt a sf g2x on the front in a sf v70 holster and an issued streamlight stinger on the rear. Soon I will be carrying an x300 on my duty MP40 just have to wait and take a class which is stupid but alas.

Surefire LX2 and one of a handful of knives. Strider SNG CC, Chris Reeve Sebenza, Benchmade 710 (current one is D2 with partial serrations, though I don't care for serrations) or Rat Cutlery/ESEE Izula. Great little knife. In my car I keep a Strider VB-GG. Also, carried an Emerson CQC-7 for a while. I have a handful of other knives, but these are the ones I carry or carried.

Of them all, I prefer the Chris Reeve (though I should have bought the full size and not the small) and will likely pick up the Umnumzaan soon. They're both great slicers and work great for everyday tasks. I like the Benchmade as well for the same reasons and I won't be upset.. as much) over loosing it. The Strider SNG is also an awesome knife, but I'll likely start carrying a DB or SA when I need a heavier use concealable knife.

As much as I like the Emerson knives, there's something lacking about the liner lock in my opinion. Also, I'm not 100% sold on the Wave feature though I could see the benefit if you spent a lot of time training with it and was the only type you carried. I don't know, I felt it needed a framelock conversion and would prefer s30v to 154.

I carry the LX2 or E2B as my daily light, though I prefer the LX2 due to it's size and texture.

Nighthawk was replaced with a Glock 17 a while back. Pic is from an EDC thread a while back.

Jon, if you do not mind me asking, why are you thinking about switching from the small Sebbie to the large? Is it the size of your hands or the type of work you want the knife to do?

I'm seriously thinking about picking up a small Classic or 21 in left-hand configuration. I've carried a knife on the left-hand side for weapon retention purposes for so long, it feels weird to carry on the right.

Just curious if there was something that you did not like about the small model, other than it's size. Given the $400 price, I'm gathering data before spending the dough.

Thanks for the excellent photos, and stay safe.

There's nothing wrong with the smaller model and it works great for normal daily stuff, but I just prefer a longer, thicker blade, especially when it's a hollow grind.

Honestly, I'd probably opt for the Umnumzaan over a Sebenza as it's more of a cross between a Strider and a Sebenza, in a way. I'm sure the small Sebenza is very solid, but I always limited the amount I'd use it, but with something like my SNG, I'd pry on things if I needed to. I wouldn't hesitate to do that with the Umnumzaan while it's still a very capable slicer.

Keep an eye out on the steels of the new ones as well. This is just my opinion, but I'd try to find one in S30v over the newer S35vn steel. My Chris Reeve Green Beret is S35vn and the edge doesn't compare to S30v, at least for my uses, others may disagree.

SeriousStudent

Thanks for the information, I appreciate you taking the time to reply. I have heard similiar concerns from other people about the S35VN. I'm also a pretty big fan of the CPM-S30V. I have one of the old original full-size Spyderco Manix folders, which I really like with S30V. I know it's not very scientific, but the edge feels "toothier" to me. It slides into the cut and bites its way through.

I'm leaning towards the smaller blades, as I work in an office that sort of frowns on anything that could be considered a weapon. So in my case, concealed means really concealed. We've also gone through a regime change as well, and I'm interested in a low profile right now.

That Umnumzaan looks quite interesting. Very sturdy, and I like the engraved handles as well. The unobtrusive glass breaker is a plus.

Thanks for your time, and stay safe.

ZT0360.SKD and a Sunwayman V10R XML. the ZT0360.SKD is a collaboration between ZT and SKD tactical, and i've found it to be my perfect EDC-sized knife - light, not too large. i have quite a few knives, and keep going back to this one for EDC.

the V10R XML is small and light weight, and uses a single CR123 or 16340 rechargeable battery, and can go from 1 lumen to 460 lumens (with the 16340 battery). it's an awesome little light with infinite variable output control using the ring behind the bezel.

Want a no shitter Shawn, it that blood shark really worth the $$?

It's worth more imo than what Dan charges . I think its cheap , considering the package you get . Try pricing out a custom sheath like that and drone for any quality small fixed blade , if you can even get one without needing a seperate sheath for the drone to match .
I don't want to derail the thread , but also taking into account the design features matching the software to go with it is prime .

I agree with militarymoron, the ZT 360.SKD is a perfect sized knife. I know I haven't put mine to as much use as he has, but it's with me all the time, I just live a sheltered life ;) The ZT and the E1B are with me anywhere I can take them.

Surefire E2D LED and Surefire delta folder... Bought the flashlight for the size and it had a pocket clip.. I use it almost every day... It has the bright 200 lumen and a 5 lumen low useful for almost everything along with strike bezel.. I bought the knife on a recommendation from a friend and while expensive.. I didn't pay full price but I haven't looked back since I got it.. It's very sharp and slim with a high quality blade its very lightweight. It's the full package including some extras most people will never use like the seatbelt cutter, glass breaker, wrench, and flathead screwdriver. These are a few of my dozen surefire product but I'll always buy surefire products.. Customer service is top notch and while expensive the product quality makes it worth every dime.. Also I am in no way affiliated with Surefire.. - HAWK

Most used to least. I try and get thin knives as I feel they carry better. I usually have plenty of other stuff in my pockets, so I want the room. Lights tend to be small, 1 battery models.

Kershawk Scamp and Novatac 120T. The Scamp replaced the Leeks I had carried earlier when I felt like I needed a bigger stronger blade. The 120T is a reliable, small, powerful light that I have found little fault with over the years.
http://i45.tinypic.com/2qvrt5c.jpg

This Kershaw is for when I want a bit smaller pocketknife. Unlike the Leeks, it uses a cammed lever to allow easy one handed opening. The 4Sevens AA Tactical is a dead simple tiny light. Add the deep carry pocket clip and it's just about perfect for me. I wish it had a bit more oomph, but it does the trick.
http://i45.tinypic.com/hsswft.jpg

The Leek is the only one I have left who's spring isn't broken. Breaking the tip was the last straw for the Leek in my book. They seem to break too often for my taste. It's a great, thin, one handed knife, but just too delicate. The AA2 got a Tactical cap for better switching, but the genius I bought this light from "aged" it and changed the programming. It's not really an EDC light at this point, but great for work.
http://i49.tinypic.com/xku0z6.jpg

The SS Leek is my favorite pocketknife, but too delicate. The AA2 Turbo is a great powerful light, but the fat head is a bit annoying when I try and put my phone in the same pocket.
http://i46.tinypic.com/2hnca4z.jpg

I wouldn't mind adding a Benchmade axis locker to the mix, but the pricing is outrageous. I don't really have a problem with liner locks though. I'm pretty happy with my lights. The Novatac and the AA Tac get 90+% of the carry time.

My entire EDC 'kit' (mostly up to date)

http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g105/austin3161324/2e9e3e92.jpg

The pocket knife is generally the Spyderco Military pictured. For such a big knife (4" blade, BIG handle) it is surprisingly sleek. Words like svelte and sleek come to mind and it fits reasonably well in the same front pocket as my keychain. I like the FFG, CPM S30V steel. It is easy to get quite sharp on my Spyderco Sharpmaker and holds the edge well. It slices beautifully. It isn't super heavy duty and the tip is most certainly NOT meant to be used as a pry bar or a screwdriver, though.

Sometimes I carry an Emerson CQC-8 w/wave instead. Not quite as slick, not as good at slicing, but seems tougher.

The light is a 4sevens Quark 123^2 with XM-L. I just love the 2x123 Quark lights (and the older Fenix lights of the exact same size). Awesome output and just right for (vertical, next to OC can) front pocket carry. I used to carry the tactical UI but I now prefer the standard...quicker access to whichever output I want. Tip: I carry the light in a holster now, after cutting off the excess fabric and the plastic piece. I had a can of Fox labs OC leak in my pocket and I think that having it rub up against the outside of the light as I walked, day in and day out, was partially to blame.

A 2x123 Fenix or Quark has ridden in my front pocket as my EDC for, geez, it has to be at least 4 years now. And I've had a Fenix P1D-CE on my keychain probably 95% of the time for even longer. I beat the ever loving shit out of these lights and they just keep coming back for more.

I got an new sharpening tool recently and I had a bunch out cleaning and working on them. My son asked me what my favorite knife was and it inspired me to try and get artistic with the camera (I have a fantasy of being a great gear mag photographer)

I'm not an expensive knife guy, rarely more than $50 but they see use. Here is my current line up of favorites.

The machete is cut down from a Cold Steel, the sheath has various survival goodies attached to it. You win the internets if you can guess what movie I watched before I cut it down.

I've got 4 military Moras laying around- it fits in a nice pouch on my chest rig and it is an AMAZING knife for the price.

Old school Camillus military camp knife, not a primary- but I love it.

My favorite pocket knife right now is the Spyderco Persistence, only had it for a week though.

The Spyderco Ladybug rides on my work keychain- because carrying a decent sized folder is against the rules. It has a P38 on the chain.

I really like what you did with the machete. Many moons ago when I was in the military, I picked up a nice golok in Asia. The sheath was leather-wrapped teak, and the blade was a perfect grind. The handles were water buffalo horn. No blisters, even without gloves. It was perfect for work in a jungle or rain forest.

And like a complete and utter moron, I gave it to a buddy when I got out of the Corps.

Here are my two EDC knives. The Benchmade 275BK Adamas (http://bladereviews101.blogspot.com/2012/08/benchmade-275-adamas.html) and my Benchmade 530BK Pardue (http://bladereviews101.blogspot.com/2012/08/benchmade-530-pardue.html).

I carry the 530 as a 'backup' blade. Because of it's slim design it fits nicely in my back pocket without any discomforting.

Great choice in footwear.

I literally refuse to wear anything else unless absolutely necessary. There's a reason why it's issued SOCOM footwear. I'm dreading actually having to BUY them though, and I'm kind of sad that it seems that the Chameleon3 has been discontinued. I suppose my next pair will be C4s.

What's on me at the desk today...

Top to Bottom:
1. Jason Brous Silent Soldier Flipper

2. Veleno Designs Quantum DD with ice blue trits

3. Warren Thomas / Fred Perrin F-18 wing panel carbon fiber/Ti laminated "Beefy" straight tanto La Griffe (one of a kind) - I always
carry one of two different one of a kind Warren Thomas CF/Ti La Griffes on me - the other is slimmer, with a recurved blade and thick jimping in the palm and thumb areas.

I also have a NAA Mini-Revolver .22LR 1 1/8" loaded with Aguila 60grn. SSS in my fifth pocket that I had totally forgotten about until after I took the pic... But this is a light and knife thread, right?

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f268/shaofutzer/edc10302012.jpg

Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention, I weighed it and everything (including the battery and kydex sheath for the La Griffe) weighs in at just a hair under 7.2 oz... Less than the lights alone that some of you gents carry... :p

Looking to pickup the Chameleon 4s too myself, as my 3s are getting a little seasoned. Shoebuy typically has some 20+% off, so it takes the sting away on new Merrells.

Jon,
How is this blade? Been debating picking it up. Thanks.

This is the one knife I regret selling. As soon as I have the money in the next couple weeks I'll be buying another. Razor sharp, easy to sharpen, the only serrations I like (though it would still be nice to have the option of no serrations) that are also easy to sharpen, has a dlc coating plus it's made of 3v steel which is extremely durable.

I was on this thick knife kick and only carrying Strider fixed blades. I still ove my Strider fixed and folding knives and will continue to carry my SMF, but for fixed blade carry, I'll go back to the Echo.

The grip felt great and really solid when wet. The knife was the perfect size and weight.

The ESEE 3 or 4, the Echo and the Strider EB (or EB-LS) are some of the best field knives I've used. The Strider DB and EB-DB are great for carry when prying may be an option, but my need for them is considerably less than something like the Echo.

I agree. My usual carry is a Lg Micarta Sebbie. It's hard to beat for an EDC. I had an Umnumzaan, it was nice but I ended up selling it for a Lg Regular Sebenza.

Dude, You sure we're not related? My EDC light is an LX2. I don't think the progressive switch can be beat. and I've carried a SnG for years, but with a recent holster change, the shape of the Emerson conflicts less with the holster when seated.

As for the liner lock emersons, the ONLY way to go is to get a framelock.:D

I recently switched to an Elzetta ZFL-M60-CS3D flashlight as my EDC light. This light is everything the reviews have stated. Built like a tank, uses the excellent Malkoff M60 lighting device, and the finish of the body is outstanding.

Here is the new light along with some of my other EDC kit. My G19 and Benchmade Griptilian, some of the(if not THE) most widely used handguns and folders.

The new Elzetta is an ideal EDC light but I'm looking at the different Elzetta mounts I can use to for my rifle. I prefer my Inforce/HSP WML at 12:00 but I just can't help myself, I NEED to see this Elzetta at 10:30.

If you don't mind me asking, how long have you had the Infidel, and how is it holding up? Switchblades are about to become legal here in Texas in a few months. I'm seriously pondering that knife.

While you were not asking me directly, I owned a full size infidel and carried it EDC for about a year. I wish, in hindsight, I did a full review on it before I sold it, but I didn't.

Quick and dirty review:

Pros: One handed operation, killer looks, blade was easy to sharpen and did not require sharpening constantly, has "infidel" in the name

Cons: Sometimes opens in your pocket, blade mechanism is not the best (gets hung up sometimes), cleaning is a bitch (and can void your warranty if done wrong), price

I looked into other OTF's like micro's and the bunch, the infidel was the best, in my opinion for the money (and I prefer benchmade for an edc general purpose blade) but after a year of doing everything with the blade it was time for it to go, that and it cut a hole or two in some nice pants I had :D

Save your pennies and buy a traditional auto - I picked up a Auto Presidio and have not been happier.

Voodoo_Man - thanks very much for the observations.

That bit about opening in the pocket is what worried me as well. I had another officer tell me the same thing happened to them.

And I really do like that Auto-AXIS lock, I think it would be more difficult to fire accidentally. I'm leaning towards towards the Bedlam, but the Presidio is on the list.

Thanks, and stay safe.

Belt is amazing. Such a difference compared to my riggers belt.

I've been carrying the knife for 4 years now. I need to sharpen it, but I cut everything with it lol. I was just hacking asparagus and weeds from my garden a few days ago. Sawing small tree branches over the weekend while clearing a mountain bike trail. I stab plastic water bottle caps multiple times a day so my two year old can drink water with out spilling it. I'll snap some detailed pics of mine some time. :jester:

Great minds think alike.

Until the auto blade law gets widely known here in Texas after Sept 1, I bet there will be a lot of "Whoa there, partner!" conversations.

The Volli might be a good choice to avoid lengthy chats of that nature. I'm a low-profile dude, if I can help it.

Yep, I do carry legal docs/regs with me, usually when flying or traveling. I am reminded of a couple things some very wise cops told me.

"It's a highway median, not a courtroom."

"The more you use your brain, the less you need your mouth."

Both of those guys have forgotten more about policing that I'll ever learn, I'm lucky to have them for teachers.

If I snag one of those Volli's, I'll let you know how it works out.

And I'll probably stick a copy of the amended law in my wallet anyway. :D

I usually carry my fancy Sebenza with Devin Thomas raindrop Damascus steel blade while at work and my Microtech Whaleshark always seems to find its way into my pocket when not working. The E1B is small and gets the job done.

I chose the Knockout first and foremost because it was made in the US. I like it because it is larger and easy to hold. The assisted opening is nice and the clip has four options.

Picked up the PM2.. I really like the handle, and it seems like the knife all-around is put together better than the Endura 4. I loooooove the Endura 4, everything from the blade shape to the steel (I prefer VG10). Only bad thing is the FRN handle chews up my pockets.

However, being my first knife with S30V, I'll give it a shot. I really like this PM2 after a day of constantly playing with it though haha. It seems a bit more "agile" and precise than the Endura 4 blade. The PM2 is a very sexy blade, though, I'm glad I bought it either way. I'll probably rotate them

Yup, the titanium is most welcome for weight reduction.

I have been debating ordering one of the ZT carbon fiber handles, and putting that on it, to shave the weight a slight bit more. Plus, I honestly like the look of CF handles better.

I have one of the old Spyderco Military BG-42 carbon fiber folders, and the thing weighs nothing. It's sharp as a razor, too. I'd love to see Spyderco come out with a sprint run Paramilitary 2 with CF handles and a Elmax or CHP blade. I'd give Sal a pretty penny for that.

Next week the new auto knife law goes into effect here in Texas, so I'll probably pick up an auto to play with. That will soak up the knife budget for a while.

Surefire L2 - Older light, but I find the "wide spot" beam pattern quite versatile.
Spyderco Superleaf - An under rated model in my opinion. 4mm thick blade, a heavy duty compression lock, screw together construction, a nice fit in my hand and under $100 delivered to the door keeps this one in my edc rotation.

The knife- Spyderco Manix 2. I really like the way the handle interfaces with the blade of a Barong and the Manix 2 seems similar. I picked it up this year and have EDC'd it for about 3 months and really like it so far. Real solid knife. I changed the pocket clip on it and no other mods. I have a full size BM Onslaught that I like even more than the Manix 2, but it only comes for right handed draw and I really jacked up the port side grip when I tried to DIY a port side pocket clip. Please PM me if you are or know someone that is competent with knife repairs (I think a bladesmith is more of a knife creator unlike a gunsmith who is more of a gun fixer.)
The light- Streamlight ProTac 2L. I have EDC'd this thing for about 3 years. Keep the batteries fresh and it works. Real bright, real reliable, real simple. It seems like know one likes Streamlight products and I don't know why. I have used 5 different models of their lights and have had great luck with 4 of them. I don't know what is wrong with the Stingers but stay away IMO, besides to big for EDC. The bright side of it being a Streamlight is everyone is impressed when they see the beam, they ask to see it, see the brand name, discreetly turn their noses up, and return it to me. At least no one ever steals it.

I'm looking at doing the same. Do you have a good source for aftermarket handles?

Speaking of light, I've been eyeing the Southard Flipper...I think that'll be my next knife.

I had a microtech ultratech a while back, definitely a whole different animal. And a lot of fun.

Btw...before you take your knife to the bench grinder make sure you check the warranty!!!! I forgot about the Kershaw lifetime warranty and after destroying my knife on some fiberglass took it to the bench grinder to "fix" it. Whoops.

For the longest time, I belt carried a holstered Maglight, Gerber Multi-tool, and a Spyderco Endura Clipit.

Too much stuff...as it is, I was dragging around enough keys alone to make any janitor green with envy.

I pared down to the Spyderco only now and pitched half of the keys into a drawer.

If I have to have tools or a light, I keep what I need in my truck or garage - no problem.

Yeah but with the APL.

I don't like the cut, nore the high back I tried out on this one. When ever I get around to building myself another one ( got to get orders out the first) I will be running either a single hard loop above the light to give myself the ability to cant the holster when I sit or do 2 soft loops so I can un button one to cant the holster when I sit.

I'm thinking about doing one just like that, except with a viridian x5l gen2.

That version take g19/g17/g26/g34 ?

I like AIWB, considering soft belt loops instead of plastic clips.

It could be molded to accept them, by simply flattening the end of the mold where the slide it. I'm getting ready to mold a g17 version at the start of the week, with 2 soft loops, high back, APL, in neon green.

I currently run a single loop on my appendix rig with out the light and love it, but I want to try the dual softs just to give input to anyone wanting the set up in the future. I'll mold it for both and use which ever I like better. Who knows how long it will take me, this one got worked on between orders and has been sitting around on my bench for a while until it got completed.
