purchased mine during christmas and have only been able to shoot it once due to things always coming up. The finish is insane, only problem i had if you want to call it that is the gun shot really low at 40-50 yards which I wasnt expecting right out the box. But i see this as a positive because its a simple fix that I will take on this weekend zeroing it in for 100 yards and it allows me to get to learn and know more about my gun and the AR15/m4 platform being my first one.

I bought one as soon as the LAV told us about it at SHOT show, I think it was 2008? I was probably one of the first civilian owner in Georgia. It is an awesome rifle, accurate, reliable and tough as an M1 tank.

A DDM4 V5 was my first AR. I actually just got to take it out for the first time this weekend. I put 350 rounds through it without any type of malfunction. Once I got the scope zeroed in, it was a real tack driver.

I put various powder charges for 77 gr. Nosler BTHP,
Several powder charges for some M856 tracers I picked up on Midway,
and 100 rnds of Federal bulk.

Even after 300 rnds, I rapid fired a full mag and it STILL performed like a champ.

It was such a good time. Cleaning up after all that wasn't.

Great gun. In my opinion the best out of the box option available.

Add sling, white light, maybe an Aimpoint if you're feeling frisky and go!

I'm running a bone stock DDM4 next to RetreatHell here and in several other videos. http://youtu.be/dVvbeLPzMSM

Before I started toying around with a 14.5" mid length that gun was shot often and cleaned rarely. It's still my HD weapon because of it's uncompromising reliability and the fact that I'm sold on an X200/X300 at 12:00 in front of a FSB.

You'll enjoy the rifle, same as I have with mine.

I have had my DDM4v3 for about three months and put about 400 rounds down range. This includes some crappy Wolf a friend gave me. No issues at all. Only problems is finding time to shoot.

Went and broke my v5 in the other day, and it was nothing but awesome! I got mine direct from DD for on duty carry, and I am still waiting to qualify.

Great gun so far, just need to get my AIMPOINT bought, everything else should be on there by the end of today!

Don't expect the trigger to be all that great... it's a milspec gi style fcg. While I think DD makes good LPKs, a gi fcg is likely going to vary gun to gun.

You'll regret not having access to a palette of ammunition. That's about it.

While you wait, spend time plotting some drills, and working out how to maximize range time with it - waiting to pick up a rifle can be frustrating, but this passes the time in a useful way.

sighted it in to 50 yards, will do 100 yards next week. But after sighting it in the rifle held groups inside a 2 inch circle which was fine by be. Sights were off quite a bit out the box, had to adjust windage by maybe 3 clicks to the right and had to lower the front sight pin by maybe 5-7 full rotations. Gun shot amazing after zeroing in the irons sights so you will love it.

Would have had a better range time if the guy next to me didnt have some 308 AR, thing had my ears ringing after 5 rounds.

Did you have to run your front sight post flush with the base on top?

no, the base of the front sight pin is 2-3 mm below the base of the front sight. I will try and post a pic so you can see what I mean.

Thank you! I have only had the Sig a couple months and have about 300 rounds through it. It is one of the most accurate pistols I have ever shot out of the box. I have a good number of pistols, but this Sig and my Springer EMP 9mm are the only ones that go to the range EVERY time. :dance3:

I will be getting a DDM4 soon but had a question about the rail. I am wanting the M4A1 FSP RIS II because I like the fact that the lower rail is tucked in a bit. Are there any appreciable disadvantages to this? Obviously, I will not be running an M203 on this rifle, but like the idea of the overall circumference feeling smaller for my mini-hands.

Its a tad bit heavier than the 12" Omega X, but I think the tucked bottom rail will mean more to me than that...

Thoughts?

My DDM4 V5 did not like Tula as well. The 55 gr failed to lock the bolt back on empty mags over 50% of the time and the 62 gr would lock the bolt back on empty mags, but I had some feeding/extracting malfunctions. I emailed DD and they mentioned that DDM4 not running well with Tula is very common. The CS rep even relayed stories of many stuck casings in the chamber.

I haven't run Tula in any of my guns since. I may try Wolf or Silver Bear eventually, but those aren't readily available here and when they are, it's not that much cheaper then buying XM193 in bulk.

That's not the forward assist, that's the brass deflector. Think about the name "brass deflector", think about what you're seeing evidence of, and decide if it's okay.

For what it's worth, the answer you should come to is that it's functioning fine and doing what it's supposed to.

If a small rail is truly what you want. Try to handle a DD M4 V7. The modular float rail is a dream come true in terms of simplicity and adaptability. Troy's is also great.

Bought my DDM4v1 last May. It's my 4th AR and the 3rd carbine variant I've personally owned (bought my first Colt Sporter back in '92). The DDM4 replaced a RRA DEA Model.

The extended front rail on the DDM4v1 was the real game-changer for me. I put a DD Convert stubby grip under the FSP. Much more comfortable and natural than using a standard carbine length rail. I had almost forgotten what it felt like to stetch out like that, as if I had a 20" rifle again. Once I experienced that, I was hooked.

Out of the box I had consistent failures to extract resulting in subsequent double feeds. At least one or two instances per 30-round magazine. I sent the upper back to DD for inspection. It was back in my hands within the week with a note on the warranty slip stating they had "polished the chamber." No malfunctions of any kind since then using Federal XM193 55 grain ammo, so I guess that was all it needed.

T-1 and X300 @ 12:00 is the way to go with this gun, IMO. It is significantly lighter than my previous carbine set-up with full-sized EoTech and side-mounted Surefire.
