Been awhile since SHOT, checked the Surefire website and I don't see anything about the new 500lumen flashlights? When are they due out?

They have not come out with a single output 500 yet though... :cray:

Not sure if you were joking with your post but at the Shot Surefire introduced a new light of lights. The X300 ultra has 500 lumins now. The lights you showed in the new line have 2000 lumins.

Damn you, I think I am going to have to drop $108 more bucks this week. Did not know that some of the lights were out yet.

Pat,

Aren't you glad I didn't ask about more expensive gear ;)

So it seems Ultra is the name they add to denote that they have the new 500lumen capacity.

Really liked my LX2 in standard form, this would be awesome with 500 lumens. That fury one looks like pretty good for the price.

I played around with one of the Fury lights a couple weeks ago at our local shop and it was so bright. Something about the LED compared to the M6 incandescent was just so blinding, even when I shined it on the tan wall about 5 feet away.

I'd really like a 500 lumen WML for certain times, but would definitely need a QD mount.

I got my Fury in and like it except for the switch. I hate having to double tap to get 500 lums.

I have heard there will be a single mode tactical version of the Fury coming out.

Surefire rep told me X300 Ultras would be available the third quarter of this year. FWIW.

The Fury puts out a HUGE volume of light, both in brightness and area. As a weapon light, you might want another, "dimmer" option available (think small white rooms or rooms with big or lots of mirrors). I know this argument was made when the 200 lumen lights came out, but there is a big difference between 100-200 and 200-500. If Surefire came out with a 500/200 or 500/150 dual output with separate switches, it would be close to ideal for me. Having to cycle through low/ hi outputs is frustrating.

I picked one up about a month ago and so far this is my only gripe as well. I can cycle through to 500 pretty quickly, but I would much prefer the higher output on the first press. The idea of a 500/150 is pretty interesting.

I am also hoping the single mode 500 will have a little more throw and a little less spill. I know at that brightness some people might find it a bit much, but I like the capability for longer range illumination in a compact package for outdoor applications, just my preference. I usually carry two lights at work anyway.

I will probably keep the 170 lmn. X300 on my pistol, but I will have to try the Ultra on my rifle.

I think I am going to buy a second Fury. I was playing around and found that I can put the Fury on my shotgun weapon light (surefire forend) and it works giving me a lot more light than the current set up.

I'm thinking of picking up a fury as well.. Anyone tried putting it into the blackhawk light holster? Wonder if it fits...

Someone posted that they heard Surefire will be coming out with a single output Fury sometime later this summer.

I think I am going to wait for that model.

Agreed. I would not care for a 500 lumen light in a dark house with light colored walls.

A dual mode 150/500 X300 might satisfy some, but I'd rather experiment with a red filter and keep the switch as dummy-proof as possible. Of course, that's assuming that the new "ultra" jobs have acceptable battery life at 500 lumens.

Not likely. These are pretty floody lights due to the diameter of the XML LED and the OP reflectors, although the fury (and probably the rest of the Ultra models) has an increase in bezel diameter to help compensate.

In order to achieve what you want, surefire could implement their TIR lens (again unlikely), and/or could add a smooth reflector, but then your likely looking a much less clean beam profile with dark spots or rings. That being said, I'm sure one of the new Ultra lights will be more throwy and have the addition of the TIR, but likely wont be in the same price catagory.

None of the Ultra line should be used in doors imo, you're asking to see spots.

The Fury worked well for me on a call the other night. We found a guy hiding in the cab or a Semi truck. The light blinded him so much he was very disoriented. It made taking him into custody a lot easier than it could have been. Plus it allowed me to see the entire cab in clarity and fortunately there were no weapons within his reach.

Does the Fury suffer from the same mode switching issues as the G2X Pro ?

I am really digging the LX2 Ultra.

I have had a few Fury's since late November and I have not experienced any of the "switching/tailcap" issues. They have been 100% successful for me.

I'm waiting for the LX2 500lumen version. I had an LX2 in 200 lumens and really liked the push button 2-level output. Little press, little light. Big press-big light.

I want an LX2. I got the G2X Tactical and it is a brilliant little flashlight. Very happy with it. Though for my new Noveske 8" 300BLK I want something with a little more power and the LX2 looks like it would fit the bill.

:D

The LX2 should hit the market in the first quarter is what I've been told.
