I don't own any colts (I know shame on me) and there's a local deal I'd like to jump on. I own multiple AR's, I've never been a KISS rifle guy so I've built most of my rifles the way I wanted them. The LE6920 is something I can add to, I'm a big believer in DD rails they're on all my rifles but I'd like to try a Larue!

The 6940 to me is "almost" done and wouldn't take much to make it serviceable for me. I don't mind the monolithic rail system but I do enjoy a standard FSP and never have been a flip up sight fan. The reason the 6940 gets my attention is its only a 200.00-250.00 upgrade from the 6920.

Next is the LE6940P, honestly I own DI guns and never have owned a piston system (whole different argument I know) but wouldn't mind trying. The Colt would run as much as an LMT piston set up so I'd go that route unless something about the Colt makes a big difference?

Here's what I can get them for OTD, choices are based mainly on that but I don't mind paying more for more.. Buy once cry once.

LE6920: $1222.67
LE6940: $1587.53
LE6940P: $2164.91

Thanks guys!

I think those prices are too high. Even in Alaska I have seen 6920's for under $1100. Grant at gandrtactical.com as well as many other online dealers have them listed for hundreds less than the prices you list. A few hundred bucks is a bunch of ammo. However, there are times that I can totally understand the desire to get something right now. Especially in today's climate of lack of supply. I really had to go through some gyrations to get a DDM4 V7, much less at a price I liked. Supply sure seems to be getting tight.

I happen to like a "slicker" free float tube, so a monolithic upper without the ability to change the quad rail doesn't really appeal to me.

I honestly don't know much about piston rifles, but the fact that DI is working fine for our military rifles and many other users, keeps me in DI rifles.

I trust Colt and I'm sure any of these offerings will be reliable and trouble free. Any reason you aren't looking at a DD M4 with the rail you already like? Buying a 6920 and adding a DD rail will probably cost more than just ordering a DD rifle with the rail you want installed by them.

I already own a DDM4, trust me it's one of the best rifles I own. I also have another build with the 12.0 FSP rail (favorite set up). I just have this weird notion I need a colt.

The other rifle on my list of to do's is the RUC, but that's a different animal!

I totally understand. I make side money by plowing snow. We've had a record snow year so I've made enough for a DDM4, which was wish item no.1. I also have a desire for a Colt, so I'm now saving for the 6920, which I will likely keep totally stock to train my kids with.

IMO, if you want a Colt; get what Colt is known for, 6920 or 6940. But if you're going to get a 6940; why not get an LMT MRP and have the ability to change barrels quickly. You can also try a piston system whenever you want.

So basically, get the 6920 or look elsewhere for the void you feel you have.

The prices seem a little on the higher end, but that's ok. IMO, for the price, it will be hard to beat the 6920. Buy one and shoot the hell out of it.

The 6920 is the perfect canvas to begin with. It's the pinnacle or AR's.

Got my 6920 (picking it up tonight because of the 10 day wait here in CA) for $1090 out the door - got a 6940 upper from G&R for $630. Going to sell the stripped 6920 upper for about $500, so I pretty much made out with a 6940 for $1220, which isn't bad considering it has a built in free floated monolithic upper and a cool guy butt stock.

I know a lot of people don't like the 6940 because of the handguard length, but I've made due pretty well for the last nine years as an infantryman with the 7" rail and I really dig the fact that its a single piece upper. It makes it a really stable platform and allows me to mount my EOTech farther further so I can fit my PVS-14 behind it. Can't wait, get to pick it up in 35 minutes!

I feel the 6940 has the edge in accuracy.
