I have been looking at getting a tactical light, but can't decide on how bright. The two options I am debating on are 300 lumins and 520 lumins. Note that this will be mounted on an m4. Should I go with the brighter light? What are the pros and cons to both?

The higher lumen lights inside will also ruin your night vision as well as anyone else's. Better for outdoors.

There's a lot more to it than just lumens too. What lights are you looking at specifically?

The ones I am looking at are made by lumaforce. I've heard good things about them.

I run a Fenix TK11 R5 on mine. The R5 model has a regular mode with 48 lumens for 12 hours and a turbo mode that will put out 258 lumens for 2:42 hours.

You switch modes by turning the head, bottoming it out against the body activates the turbo mode. The switch is a "forward clicky" which means push for momentary, click for constant on.

I have put several thousand rounds through my rifle and not had any issues with it. I have run the one on my rifle too hard but I do have an older one with Q5 head that I have used in the shop and on the road that has taken its fair share of abuse.

Can I ask how you mounted it? I love Fenix lamps and have five of them, I am not sure I could mount my TK10 to my M4 but I sure would like to try.

Thanks

I have a TK10 mounted to my AR using the Viking Tactics mount at the 1 o'clock position.

Cool, thanks, I have seen mounts made but they say TK11 and up, not a TK10.

By chance you got a pic???

What are you using the light for? Inside home defense or outside? Inside lights seem to do well with more spill that allows you to splash off of the floor.. Outside with more throw and a focused beam will extend your ability to see your target.

Going to be mostly indoors, maybe outdoors but under 50 yards of so.

I plane for it to be an indoor and outdoor light.

There you go. I love the versatility of the TK10. Twist the head for 100 lumens for indoor searches and twist it back for 420 lumens of bright light to take care of outdoor work.

Thanks boss, she looks great! I have an older version that is olive drab! Looks good and is very versatile!

Thanks for posting the pictures!

What model of TK10 do you have? That output is not the stock LED, you using a drop in of sorts?

No, it's stock. I just had a brain fart when I typed that up. 225/60 lumens high/low.

10-4,

I was starting to think I was going to have to get yet another Fenix to have an XM-L emitter, hahaha!

I have it mounted using VLTOR's Offset Scout Mount.

My experience has been the high intensity lights are counter productive indoors. Kills your vision as well like Jsop said. There is such a thing as too much light.

Anyone run a green taclight on their guns to preserve night vision? Also would be good for shooting Hogs.

Just wondering.

Yep, that is the reason I like the TK10.
