I was wondering if anyone knew of a knife/sheath combo that not only carries the knife but also a firesteel and sharpener, or has the capacity to carry those. The Gerber Bear Grylls knife is exactly what I'm looking for, but I was less than impressed with its reviews. I always have a firesteel, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to have a backup in the seath or in the knife just in case.

Look at Ontario's knives, I believe they have something like this. Possibly Cold Steel as well.
ETA Esee has the Izula that comes with a survival kit.

to be honest I just used electrical tape and taped the small pouch for my wet-stone right to the outside of my KABAR's kydex sheath...

I wouldn't necessarily compromise on the blade just to have a few other features in the sheath... you'll be pretty limited in those available with both a sharpener and fire-steel incorporated with the sheath and blade...

get a decent wet-stone the comes with a carry pouch (got mine at walmart), and a small pouch like a mini mag-lite pouch to hold the fire-steel and just tape them both or paracord them to the sheath for any blade you want or already have....

saves money, gives you exactly what you want and doesn't compromise things...

The Fallkniven F1 is one of the most widely respected knives in the realm of those who know and appreciate quality tools, and one of the models comes with a firesteel pouch in the sheath. It's made of a high carbon laminated steel, so you'll get good spark and you'll be able to sharpen it easier than stainless as long as you're willing to put up with some minimal corrosion or discoloration over time. Since you're asking about the firesteel, I assume that you're not worried about the look of your knife as much as the function.

PS: Also look into the Mora Bushcraft. Stainless steel, but ridge ground for use with the fire steel. Diamond stone and fire steel integrated into the polymer sheath.

Try ESEE knives combined with a Spec-Ops sheath. The sheaths have a pouch on the front for a sharpening stone/firesteel/etc.

I recently picked up a Kabar Potbelly. It's a larger style knife that can be used as a chopper. Also comes with a skinning knife (although it seems a little cheap) and a large pouch on front of the sheath. I keep a multi-tool, firestarter and tinder there with no problems.

Mora makes a knife with a fire steel in the handle with a sheath. I paid $15 I think on Amazon. I bought it just to get up to free 2 day shipping and I ended up liking it pretty good.

I'm sorry but you are wrong about the F1 being carbon steel. It is laminated stainless steel - VG10 core with 420J externally. but that is not a problem as I regularly use mine to make sparks with a Ferro rod, and it doesn't hurt the knife one bit to use it for that. I use the spine rather than the cutting edge and the marks left on there are easily wiped off with a wet thumb.

you only need carbon steel knife if you are trying to make sparks with a flint where the sparks will be the pieces of the knife blade but most people use a special striker to save damage to their knife.

and to say that carbon blades sharpen easier than stainless is not a universal truth - it's more dependent on the particular steel and the heat treat used in either. there is one truth however, if a knife sharpens easier, it will also dull easier. I have a knife made in A2 carbon steel that shames many of the lesser stainless blades for edge holding but it takes some time and patience to restore a dull edge.

the VG10 used in the Fallknivens is harder than woodpecker lips but somewhat brittle compared to the outer laminations which are there to provide strength to the blade.

I have three Falkys - A1, S1, and H1. I had an F1 but sold it and got the H1 as a hunting/bushcraft knife but I may get another as all Fallknivens are incredible knives. I keep my A1 literally dry-shaving sharp and at the end of the day of using it like a machete to clear trail, limbing branches, chopping saplings and batonning small logs for kindling, it will still push cut paper or slice it into very fine curls. usually all I need to bring the edge back to shaving sharp is a stropping. these knives are incredibly tough and excellent values for what you get.

to the OP, a knife that gets great bushcrafting reviews is the Mora in stainless or carbon. Light My Fire has a version with one of their excellent Scout fire-steels that twist-locks into the handle - http://www.amazon.com/Light-Fire-FireKnife-Stainless-FireSteel/dp/B00I9B4P0S

this is interesting and I may just pick one up for S&G, though I have several other Moras and plenty of firesteels...

Add me to the list on the Fallkniven fanboy club. I have a S1 that I adore and consider the best "all-around" knife I've had.

I have that Mora Bushcraft Carbon Black Survival version. It is a good ferro rod on it, and the stone works fine, a medium-ish grit, it will get you back to damn sharp but it is not a finishing stone. It might get smoother with use, I haven't used it on the mora as it is still razor sharp. I pulled my little Gerber 200 across it a couple times and it brought it back decently.

The knife is wonderful. Good heft, really great grip and feel, you know you have a solid capable tool in your hands. I don't think you can do better for $50, it would take twice that or more to jump up another notch to an Esee or similar.

It depends on how much you want to spend. I carry ESEE knives, myself. Check out Godspeed Tactical (http://www.godspeedtactical.com/). They make custom kydex for several of the knives already mentioned here.

spec ops and black hawk make execellent carriers. i use mostly blade tech for my work knives but for outdoor use i carry the spec ops. hae never carried anything but a randall. probably never will. #15 or/ #14 depending on waht i am doing.
i tape a cannister of waterproof matches to the back. also on front a fire steel wrapped with steel wool. in pouch, slide a 6" saw blade behind the kydex in the canvas sheath.

I don't know if I "adore" mine, but it's the one knife I choose most often. especially if heading out with an axe or machete. I don't find the 5" blade to be too big for anything I want to do in camp.

the A1 can be used like a small machete, using a wrist lanyard and two-finger grip, and can chop small stuff and split kindling using a baton. it's too big for other stuff though, so a smaller knife like the F1 or WM is good to have with it...

sorry for the Fallkniven commercial  but to get back to the OP's question, I'm not a fan of having anything attached to my sheath. it seems like a cool idea at first but I don't like anything adding bulk or that can get caught on stuff. I use my knife on the order of 20 or 30 times more a day than making fire so it makes no sense to have a striker "handy"...

I carry 3 types of fire making (lighter, storm-proof matches, and Doan's magnesium bar with striker) with me outdoors. the striker goes in my fire kit with tinder, etc., the lighter goes in a pocket, and the matches in the "survival" kit with med, water tabs (I also carry 3 types of water purification), Cliff Bar, spare light, whistle, and SOL 2-person survival blanket -- http://www.surviveoutdoorslonger.com/survive-outdoors-longer-survival-blanket.html

I have the esse 5 and bought a sheath from skystorm leather, the hawk scout sheath and it has firesteel attached and the option of a pouch. I'm happy with the knife and sheath although it is a little pricey

One of the best combos I have seen is an esee knife with a godspeed tactical sheath that holds the fire steel.

As far as the sharpener, if it fits on the knife or sheath it will probably have little use. A collapsible ceramic rod in a pack used for light touch ups would be better.

Eta, the esee laser strike has an emergency fire steel under the scales, a very good knife.
