I like the 12 o' clock location for lights but I'm having a hard time finding sources for type of mount that I want.

I'm not even sure it's available.
I've seen the barrel mount option but I would like to know if anyone offers a picatinny rail that attaches to the front of the sight tower. I'm aware of the rails that attach on the "sides" of the tower.
I'm not sure how to describe what I'm looking for...

If you had a front BUIS on a rail system and NOT a FSB, couldn't a light be mounted infront of the BUIS?

Whether or not you could find a combo that would not destroy the sight picture...i have no idea

Yes. I've seen it recently run this way with a Surefire X200/X300 and it worked very well. I like this setup, but for now prefer a fixed front sight base. Although if you had something like a DD 12.0 FSP Lite rail and a standard FSB you could probably accomplish the same thing.I haven't been able to find exactly what I am looking for either, but have ordered a Viking Tactics mount to try in hopes of being able to run a light with minimum offset from the bore in around a 1:00-2:00 position. This is in an attempt to make the setup more barricade friendly. I just wish someone made a little higher quality/more robust mount in the same setup, like DD, VLTOR, etc.

I think I saw something like you talking about on one of the shooting shows on the outdoor channel (Guns and Ammo TV, Shooting USA, whatever) so you may try Midway USA and see if they have it.

Update:
I found something I thought you all might take an interest in.
A lower cost alternative for the 12 o'clock mount.

Don't know much about TDI but the option is available.

Try this thread:

Scroll down to the bottom of the first page and you'll see pictures of my upper. It's a Colt 10.5" Barrell with a Daniel Defense 9" light rail. X200 mounted right on top of the rail with a removable LMT front sight. GotM4 put it together for me.

This setup is really slick. I'm about to purchase either a 10" or 12" rail for my 14.5 inch gun and set it up the same way.

Not a cheap way to go but a very nice setup.
