In doing research for a new AR/build, I have a legitimate question, I couldn't find an answer on the board.
I have only been into the platform for about 4yrs, my first rifle was a dpms, works great, but I am ready to go to the next level.
I was disabled 2yrs ago and lost some bend function in my rt elbow, shooting my dpms with collapsible stock is somewhat uncomfortable, even all the way extended. What are some options? I know some adjustable stocks have longer LOP, are all a2 stocks created equal? Are there adjustable stocks(within reason) that are a bit longer? I'm not sure of what all is out there, but I know this must have been brought up before? Thanks!

Commercial stocks are longer than milspec stocks (the buffer tube is longer) if that helps any

Some stocks are in fact longer than others. I am kinda tall and long armed, so I like a long LOP for most applications. The longest setup I currently am using is the Magpul ACS with the extended buttpad.

The VLTOR A5 buffer system will allow you to get a longer LOP than an A2, especially with an ACS and a rubber butt pad. There are also various spacers / extension kits available for A2 buttstocks. Here is one example:

Yeah it's DPMS but it works fine and has nothing to do with the function of the rifle.

dj, thanks, I had considered that, and may be the way I go.

a0, that is a cool option, thanks. As far as DPMS, I have no ill thoughts, my rifle has performed flawlessly in many conditions, thru many rounds.

No, their not all created equal. Genuine COLT Stocks, Grips and Handguards are made from higher quality (better) materials than the off-brand stuff is made from.

You'll find everything you need via. the link if you decide to use COLT Parts.

Good luck with your new build.

So many times on this board the answer is "go try some out first". And in your case, it couldn't be more true. Your unique circumstances mean that finding what might be that one and only good solution demands trial and error. But it could get silly expensive if you buy first.

Go to a shop, or better yet a gun show, and try out all the different stocks you can. Preferably on rifles set up similar to yours. Not one person here could tell you what's gonna work for you. Personal limiting factors are what they are. Personal. Good luck.
