View Full Version : HK417 Photos?
Anyone know of any new HK417 photos floating around anywhere? I've seen the usuals on HKPRO and what not, but haven't come up with anything recent. I know it's still a new platform so I wouldn't be surprised if there aren't many out there. Thanks in advance for any info.

Any new ones would most likely show up on HKPro like you mentioned. Shot Show is almost here and I'm pretty sure lots of new pics will come up.
A better question is who has one and how do I buy it.
And don't give me that LE/military only crap either.
Guess what, here's the LE/Mil crap: unlike a 416 upper which can be put on any AR lower, there is no backwards compatable lower for the 417.
For now...
Dano you nearly pissed in my cornflakes. But alot like the 416 upper in my safe. They will make it out onto the market eventually.
But alot like the 416 in my safe.
A 416? Or a 416 upper?
Will be out on the range tomorrow, will see if I can take a few.
For now...
I like the sound of that.
As long as you don't tell the ATF, or anyone on the internet you should be GTG....:p
Let's hope Wilcox comes through for us.
I would love to buy a U.S. built semi-auto 16" HK417 next year.

I look forward to seeing them! Thanks!

Just got off the phone with a certain Fed LE rep in Ashburn. I was told the 417's in 12" and 20" are currently available for agency purchase and the 16" isn't far off. I was quoted $2880 for the 12" and $2990 for the 16". Just figured I'd give you guys a heads up.

Two items on my dream list:
a 10.5" 416 and a 16" 417
I could pretty much replace everything except a couple of AK's with those two. Then again, I could always get an AK lower for a Masada...

A 16 inch 417 is VERY tempting. I might put my M14 away for that.
Somebody touring the HK Germany factory took these HK417 photos very recently. It’s enough to get me drooling for the U.S. made Wilcox rifles.

Very nice! Thank you for sharing VA Dinger! I'm sure you'd be considered a hero if you posted these over on HKPRO. ;) :D

It seems the HK417 is already seeing action with the Dutch SF.

Looks like they also bought HK416's.

Not to mention Turkey seems to have placed a very large order for the HK416.
Great pics again Dinger. Thanks for sharing!

Here is a former "co-worker" (from many years back), with a 417 at Show N Sell day last spring. He was dry, hadn'r gone live yet. The optic was a NF 1.1-4x variable.
Not bad at all.
Thanks for the photo Erick. I happened to stumble across these photos this evening. A Norwegian SF operator with a 20" HK417.

nice pics..those Dutch/Norwegian SF are well geared up..:)
Great photos.
I did not know so many HK417's were already in service with such highly respected military units.

For some reason I really like the one in the middle. What is that? 20"? 16"?

It's going to be tough for me to pick between the 16" or 18" barrel when the time comes.

Get both.

If I'm not mistaken, they're only offering 12", 16", and 20" variants. No 18" as far as I know.
Get both.
I'll be doing exactly that, except with the 12" and 16". I'm getting one of the 12" uppers off of a select fire 417 when my dealer gets them in. Then I'll be picking up a complete 16" 417 when they're available. I'll SBR it, sell the 16" barrel and have plenty of spare parts on hand. Set it up real nice in a Pelican case too! :D

WTF?
I just read a review on the 417 from someone who got to finger it at SHOT and they said the 12.5" gun had a trigger pull of at least 15 pounds. I figured it was BS, but HK lists the trigger as being 15-20 pounds.
Seriously?

Hmm if that is the truth, the HK417 just fell right F#$* off of my interest Radar.

It looks like HK USA's numbers are just skewed. HK Germany has it listed as 21-27 Newtons, which is 4.7-6 pounds. That being the same pull weight of the 416.

Must have NASA guys doing the metric to SAE conversions.:D
I'm still hating the stock...
I'm really not too keen on that grip- it looks like something's just "off" with it and it looks very thin with a very large cutout for your web. I'm not understanding what I'm seeing.

I believe the grip on the HK416 pictured below is the latest grip for the 416/417 series.

Another shot of the updated grip on the HK417. Photo courtesy of Tuukka. It's probably my favorite shot of the HK417 to date.

The 12" 417 balances really nicely. I hope they sell them here to civvies. Would love to pick one up. :D

I think it's wonderful that HK is making an effort to include vision-impaired employees on their design team. :p But seriously, the gun didn't look that bad last year...I wonder why they changed everything.
I'll wait for the Masada or SCAR.
I just checked out the 2008 HK catalog and noticed there are three different grips available for the 416/417. Whatever fits your fancy I suppose. :)

Is there any word on how the 417's are performing in testing and in the field?

Looks like things in Amsterdam's red light district have gotten rough if they're rolling with HK 416/417 :D
I got an email from HK (18Feb08).... "the MR 5.56 should be available at this time next year". US made, including barrel.
I'm not sure how old these photos are, but from the looks of the buttstock and grip in some of them, they appear to be fairly recent.

Looks like an opportunity lost......They should have used DPMS/SR25 mags for standardization.
The constant curvature of the polymer 417 mags greatly enhance feeding and are a key feature.
A 12" 7.62 has piss poor ballistics & limited application. Some specialty ammo helps this but is not widely available. IMO 16" is acceptable 18" GTG.
Im with you 100%... I really think an 18 inch barrel is the way to go...
B
The constant curvature of the polymer 417 mags greatly enhance feeding and are a key feature.
Come on man, don't do that now.....
You mean to tell me the world was doing it wrong when they were firing millions of rounds out of M14's, G3's, FAL's, Galil 308, SIG542's, and just recently ar10's and SR25's??? They all use straight mags and I've never heard of any problems with the 7.62x51mm + straight magazine complex.
It's about MONEY. If HK lands a contract with US special forces, they want to make as much money as possible. A proprietary mag means you buy from them and no body else.
Now there is nothing wrong with making money, but it is unfortunate about the magazine issue. Fortunately however, the US market already has a sustainable group of manufacturers that build 7.62x51mm AR rifles that use the DPMS/SR25 mag so it's all good.

I would want an HK-417 with a 20" barrel so as to be able to reach out and touch farther targets more accurately. I do not like the look of the pistol grip, so hopefully they have a hogue style grip? I would definitely have a blast if i could get my hands on one of these fun toys!

The HK417 should be compatable with any standard AR pistol grip. There are three different grips offered by HK for the 416/417 platform. If none of those fit your fancy, you could easily swap them out for another one. :)

I will be going for the ACR.. HK and Colt both piss me off with the BS.. I almost was going to go with a Colt on my next build but LMT made me change my mind.. Colt makes good weapons but I cant see it being as good as LMT and as for HK after hearing the price on the 417 and it not working with other lowers.. I will stick to buying USA..

Where did you get pricing on the 417? Also, HK will be building these in the US, from what I've read.(Don't Quote Me)

my cousin in germany seen 416/417 but 556 one has some bad mods on it -civy one has two bad mods the rear take down pin in moved different location [so other uppers will not work -app.6mm backward] next is blocking pin so you cant use a m-16/ar-15 bolt carrier in the upper ! hk hates you well again!
