View Full Version : What light do you run with your 1911?

I have an MC Operator, SA Pro Operator and Cot Rail gun. My surefires, which I bounce around on my guns, do not fit snug on any of these 1911's. I have played around with changing the bars that Surefire offers, but none have fixed the play. They work fine, it just bugs me. On my plastic guns, it's perfect solid lock up.

Anyone have a work around on this issue or any feedback on a true fix.

Thank you 1911 gurus in advance.

Funny, your experience is the exact opposite of mine, the X300 was the only one that fit mine without any play. I did have to swap to what I believe was the universal one when I moved it to my M&P in order to get it to lock in.

I'm no guru by any stretch of the imagination, but when I was using an Insight light, it had a lot of play and while this may not be the ideal solution, I fixed it by taking one segment of a ladder rail cover, trimming it and sticking it in one of the other rail slots. It took a few tries to get it just right and it was tougher to get the light on though, but that held it in place nicely with minimal play.

X300! That's what came with my GRP and it fits perfectly!!!!

I have a TRL-1 on my SW1911. No perceptible play. I have run about 5k rounds with the light mounted. I also have a TRL-1s. Same deal. Less rounds overall, but no play. The screw-type mount does get a bit annoying at times, but neither have worked loose on me on 300+ round shooting days. My M&P has a VERY slight front/rear movement on the TRL-1s if I really pull on it, but like you said, it does not seem to impact the use of the light.

X300, which is snug on the rail of my Nighthawk GRP Recon. Is the movement front to back in the rail, or is it loose on the rail?

X300 on a Nighthawk enforcer here.. Mine wouldn't slide back far enough on the rail to engage the notch. First magazine and it popped right off! I had to take a dremel and take a bit off the rear of the light, fits perfect now.

X300 and TLR1 and 2 rotating on ARs, glocks, 1911s.

I'm no even going to insult your intelligence by asking if you have looked and used all of them. I haven ran into this problem. Have you contacted surefire or Springfield? I know their CS is great.

X300 on a Sig TacOps...tight as a frogs butt.

2 X300's and one IMPL by virtue of having the DP light rail.

One of the X300's is tight on both, one just isn't. I have the same issue, with my other three X300's on various 1913 foreends (Troy, DD, and Centurion) that they have that bit of wobble.

Only got one railed 1911 (out of the 4 I own). Streamlight TLR-1S for me.

Crimson Trace grips came factory on my Ultra Covert II, though! Does a laser count? :D

I noticed a few days ago how the vast majority of mounted lights in the 1911 picture thread were X300s. I have a TLR-1 on mine at the moment, because I don't have a SureFire yet. I hadn't noticed any play until now, but if i pull it forward with a decent amount of force, it will slide just a bit.

None of my 1911s have a rail, but I use an X300 in my weak hand...

TLR-1s on full rail TRP. Fits snug. Thinking about the new x300 ultra but don't know if it's worth having to get a new holster.

I had a spare X300 in my safe. I pulled it out and changed out the horizontal bar. It fits much better now. It has a little play, but very minimal which is acceptable. My Springer and Colt fit it much better.

I thought I had tried it before? Maybe my son got away with the one that I modified before. maybe the newer X300's come with better options.

They have some other bars in the extra package (surefire's accessory bag) that I didn't dick around with. Surefire knows what they're doing.

Personally, I am waiting for a quality "mini-x300" with one battery.

Part of what I like about the 1911 is the slim, flat nature of the pistol.

I would like to see something from surefire that is similar to the TLR-3. I was hoping for it this year at SHOT but no luck. Maybe I'm just out in left field but it seems like there would be a market for a slim, flat, CCW WML. But maybe the TLR-3 sells so poorly that Surefire isn't interested.

I use an M3X with Malkoff head on my Kimber TLE/RL, but there is movement when mounted, partially because its not only very old and used, but also removed and replaced often, and for this i like it. I have a Streamlight TLR1 on my Mossberg 590 which is very solid, and would be on my Kimber as well.

I shoot a custom built Fusion Firearms Tac-5 and use a Insight Technologies M6X light/laser on the rail. Works great.

Best part is that I can swap it out onto my Sig P226R and dont have to adjust the laser for elevation at all......great setup and the light/laser M6X version waterproof to 66 feet.

I have 2 X300s and one TLR-1 and they all work without issue.

Is it just one x300 you're having problems with?

I resolved my own issue. I opened a new one and it had parts to resolve my issue. Not perfect but good enough. Very slight play.

You could always try making some sort of shim if the play becomes a reliability issue.

upgraded to a x400 on the colt rail gun, still rock solid. make sure you try the picatinny/m1913 adapter.

I use an X300 on my Springfield MC Operator. It is a very snug fit with solid lock up, absolutely no play at all. I also have an X300 on my SIG P226 and M&P9, all are tightly fitted. I also leave the lights on the guns. Perhaps the locking bar on your light has been worn a little from switching it from gun to gun?

I would love to see a picture of your X300 off your gun. I'm interested in seeing what bar is in place? Did you change the X300 in anyway? Just curious.

I wonder if pic rails vary from gun to gun. I wouldn't think so, but the difference between a solid lock up and slop isn't much. Anyone have experience with this.

Well my friend has Nighthawk Custom where the frame has only one cut on the rail up front. The X300 was so tight that the bar would not drop into the slot and he had to file it down to get it to go. Granted that is just 1 sample, but that seems to show that they do vary.

My MC Operator has the same problem with the pull lever interface on the x300, it has noticeable back-and-forth movement on the rail with the picatinny attachment bar. I ended up using the rail-lock hardware and cranking the tightening screw till it was solid. Every other x300 I've used is the same story.

The light never comes off the gun anyway, so it fits rock solid. It's a marginal pain to remove it (and by marginal I mean it takes 20 seconds longer) than the pull tabs. But it stays on the gun 100% because my M&P has its own light.

Anyone use a Veridian laser/light? I'm curious as to how well it locks down to the various railguns..I've only seen then attached to polymer combat pistols

I tried putting a C5L on my 1911, it looked weird as hell.
