View Full Version : Identifying Pre-Ban G19 FML magazines?

No joy with Search. during the AWB, I bought mags for my G19 and paid some outrageous prices. The followers were marked 9mm1. How else can one tell a pre-ban Glock FML magazine from a post-ban besides the obvious LE marking?

easiest way is where the cal stamping is. On post ban the 9mm was moved up on the back of the mag so they could fit Gov't/LE stampings, etc. when they dropped the added verbage they left the cal stamping hi on the mag..... I don't have a pre ban mag to take pic hopefully someone does.........

Generations 1-4 = pre-'94 ban
Generations 5-6 = during the '94 ban
Generations 7-8 = post-'94 ban
Generation #8 has the ambi-mag release cut-out in the front of the magazine.

NY and MASS still have state AWB's with magazine restrictions. The FML drop free versions are the most desirable of the pre bans for those of us behind the lines.

That being said you will probably not recover what you paid for your magazines. The G19 is one of the most popular Glocks out there, with millions of magazines in circulation. Most free staters are happy to sell an almost 20 year old magazine for the price of a new one.

Understood. In 2002, they were pricey.

And the dollar was worth much more...

Good picture and resource.

I just received a new Glock Factory 17rd G17 mag from Brownell's yesterday. I ordered some various parts and threw one on the order to make it worth shipping. It was a little different than the others I have which include those labeled as #6, #7, and #8 on your photo.

I took a couple of pics to add to this thread. I assume the design change is to accommodate use in the new Gen 4's but as I don't have any time with those I'm not positive.

I don't have a Gen 4, but based on what I've seen in local gun stores, that's correct.

For those trying to ID 9mm pre-ban Glock magazines - the best "tells" are the lack of a caliber marking (good for versions 1-3), and the two exposed circles of metal just above the bottom row of "ports" for rounds 16 and 17 (above ports 14 and 15 for the G19) (good for versions 2-4). As near as I've been able to tell, versions 2, 3 and 4 all have these two "dots", while versions 5+ do not.

For those who have versions 1-4 of either G17 or G19 magazines available for sale, please PM me, as I need them...thanks.

Do the new Gen 4 G19 and G17 mags work or are they iffy on QC like the pistols?

I have not bought G17 mags since before the ban. Sold a few during the ban for 80 bucks a pop! LOL
