So, like the title says, I am in the market for a new timepiece. I seems that gun guys are usually watch guys as well. Here is what I am looking for --

--$100ish price
--Rubber wrist band
--Digital
--Ruggedish (doesn't have to be bomb proof)
--Useful functions

What say youins?

Casio G-Shock.
ETA - look for X4CTO on YouTube, he has a nice collection with in depth commentary.

up your budget a little bit and get a Seiko Monster.

This is another great option. I was once on the hunt for a Seiko "Trek" Monster, however it is no longer in my budget.

I used a plain old Casio G-Shock similar to this one...

http://www.casio.com/products/Watches/G-Shock/GD100-1B/

...from 2006 - 2011. It survived multiple deployments (on one battery nonetheless), and never blacked out as many digital watches do under the desert sun. It finally bit the bullet last year while rock climbing. The mechanism itself didn't quit but the rubber band finally gave out. I tried looking for it at the bottom of the rock face to see if it survived the fall but wasn't able to find it.

useful for what?

I've been hunting around for a digital watch for awhile so I'm curious what your "functions" are to see what kind of answers you get.

Wegner Swiss Army watch - retail around $200 but sell for for less than $100.

I paid $78 for mine at a sporting goods store.

Nice watch. Stainless steel case, rubber band, and water proof to 100M.

Quartz movement: keeps time accurately.

I bought it a few months ago and it has held-up well.

SkiDevil

P.S. Swiss made, not made in China like so many other less expensive watches.
I bought mine for a bang-around, don't care if it breaks watch but have been pretty surprised. It's a nice watch for the price.

Oops. Didn't see you wanted digital. I would still take a look there are some models with integrated analog and digital faces.

Rob, I was just thinking of the standard shit, I guess. Chronograph, alarm clock, time zones, ability to see it in low-light, ability to use 24 hour format

Based on this I also recommend a Casio G-Shock.

That said, mine GAINS time like mad! I'll be 15 minutes fast in a couple of months. Does ensure I'm not late for appointments though....

Gotcha. One of the things I'm still looking for is an interval timer that's not a nightmare to setup.

I received this as a gift:

http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/watches/top_brands/casio/casio1/mens/PRD~620071/Casio+Twin+Sensor+Chronograph+Digital+Watch.jsp

Best watch I have owned. I have worn it daily for 18 months. Simple to set up. I cant speak to the accuracy of the compass, as I dont use that feature.

How about an altimeter or a multiple time zone function? I would like both of those features.

I've worn G-Shocks almost exclusively over the years. The watch body is GTG, the bands suck. Swapped bands to a Maratac Zulu and haven't replaced one since.

I had a G-Shock. The analog looking sort with sub display for digital time. The kind that gets the current time off the air and uses sunlight to recharge itself. It's software was messed up as it would reset itself to some random time and then after that keep that new time up-to-date with the over-the-air updates.

I had a Wenger Swiss Army watch. Nice watch, but did not last long in terms of actually keeping time.

Neither of these two watches actually lasted that long and were big disappointments.

I guess you win some and you lose some.

I gave up and use my phone to tell time now.

If you want a digital, get a Casio G-Shock. If you want a quartz, get a Timex. If you want an automatic, get a Seiko 5. All well under $100, and all will last for years.

The G-shock I have right now the band attaches with screws. Will the Zulu work with that? I'm not terribly thrilled with the plastic band right now and the way it grabs arm hairs.

As others have said, G-shock will meet your requirements. They come in so many flavors and styles that it is hard to recommend a single one. On the other hand - they are easy to find...Sears, Target, Walmart all stock G-shocks, and every mall I've ever stepped in has a kiosk full of G-shocks. Try on a few and find one you like. I have a 6900 model that I picked up for $50 and use as a beater watch - and have no complaints.

You'll have to buy a band adapter.

It sure sounds like a G-Shock would fit the bill. Here's a great watch site: http://www.watchuseek.com/

I started googling around and found out that if you get out of the g-shock series you get a lot more options at a lot lower price points. Maybe they aren't as sturdy, not suitable for deployment, or whatever, but I found this one had the intervals like I wanted, a face I liked, and it's only $32. I ordered one.

I've worn GShocks for years but it's also been years since I've worn one. I don't want my watch to do anything but tell me the time and date.

I know the Seiko monster is not digital but that or a Seiko 007/009 would be my suggestions for an automatic. You can get them in the $100 price range.

I am wearing a Marathon Navigator with date, list price is around $230 if you have a military or govt ID the price shipped is around $140. It is so light I forget I am wearing it. The tritium is great at night too.

check out watchrecon.com just type in what you are looking for and check out pricing.

A Seiko 007 or 009 is also an awesome watch.
