I have a chance to get one of these at a decent price. It's in good shape, and doesn't appear to have been shot much, so I'm thinking it might make a good backup/spare/IDPA gun/project gun/loaner. Any reason to pass it up?

nope. As long as you don't need the rail. Parts are readily available. IT should work great.

If the. Condition is good and the price is right, grab it up. Gen 1s are great pistols.

I bought one myself about six months ago. It was in well used condition, and it is unknown how many rounds were fired through it. It runs like a champ, and I like the grip without the finger grooves.

Gen 1 17s are still great pistols. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one.
