TORONTO – The Court of Appeal for Ontario has swept aside some of the country’s anti-prostitution laws saying they place unconstitutional restrictions on prostitutes’ ability to protect themselves.

The landmark decision means sex workers will be able to hire drivers, bodyguards and support staff and work indoors in organized brothels or “bawdy houses,” while “exploitation” by pimps remains illegal.

However, openly soliciting customers on the street remains prohibited with the judges deeming that “a reasonable limit on the right to freedom of expression.”

The province’s highest court suspended the immediate implementation of striking the bawdy house law for a year to allow the government an opportunity to amend the Criminal Code.

I think it has been legal for awhile. Now it is legal to have a building dedicated for it instead of using a car/motel etc.

Not a Cannuk, but good for them. Not quite sure why it was illegal to begin with so long as the participants are willing adults.

Just makes no sense what so ever. As an engineer I sell my brain every day to my employer. Athletes sell their brawn. Models sell their looks. Politicians sell their souls. I can sell my sperm. A woman can sell her eggs. Yet it's illegal to rent a vagina or penis. Makes no sense.

selling is legal... ****ing is legal... why is selling ****ing not legal? never understood that ;)

Its the oldest profession on earth... making it illegal will not make it go away... might as well accept it and make it less dangerous.

It's been a few years but if memory serves, things can become somewhat distorted come last call. So never say never. And wrap that rascal! :blink:

Just come to Nevada. You don't need a passport and you'll be helping support the American economy instead of the Canucks. ;)
