I was going to post this (http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/key-charges-dismissed-against-michigan-militia-members-charged-with-plotting-war-on-government/2012/03/27/gIQAfUYVeS_story.html) in the original thread from 2010 but it was closed. After being in custody for 2 years without bond...

A federal judge on Tuesday gutted the government’s case against seven members of a Michigan militia, dismissing the most serious charges in an extraordinary defeat for federal authorities who insisted they had captured homegrown rural extremists poised for war.

If you'd like to read the original thread you can do so here (https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=50508) where you'll find several vocal members saying what amounts to "Hang'em high!" such as this:

People! Read the eff'in indictment!!!!! It isn't that hard to understand. It breaks down each of the alleged crimes, the elements of those crimes, and then lays out what these payasos did to violate the law, element by element.

These guys are charged with sedition. Do you know how long it has been seen a group of Americans has been charged with this? This is death penalty stuff. This is serious. This isn't a group of misunderstood patriots. These are domestic terrorists and I for one am looking forward to seeing them swing.
I'm not saying these wackadoodles are firing on all cylinders but I am glad that indictments aren't proof of guilt in this country.

As if that matters anymore. They have still lost everything. Upon arrest all of their property would have been seized, cataloged, tagged, bagged and shit on. Who knows what they will have to do to get it back if they are even able to get it back.

Literally an accusation may as well be a guilty verdict anymore.

We'll have the same police-state whackadoos doing it over here that are doing it on barfcom. They even have some of the same screen names.

Do you know how BAD a case has to be to get thrown out of Federal court like that? Especially when the defendants are a bunch of white right-wing hillbillies and the judge is a Clinton appointee?

You'll get no argument from me. I'm curious to see what their compensation will be for living behind bars for the past 2 years. I don't think you can sue the .Gov for slander and defamation.

This is very interesting. I hope there is recourse for them. My faith in the system has been slightly restored.

Next time they be sure to 'find' kiddie porn on their computers.

Also...its amazing how many people just assume someone is guilty because they were charged with something. There are thousands of people who have their lives destroyed every year and go bankrupt defending themselves against charges for crimes they didn't commit. How do you even raise money to defend yourself when you're in jail for 2 years and have a lot of your shit seized?

At least this time they didn't have their unarmed wives shot in the head by HRT while holding their babies in their arms.

FF and now this. . .wonder how many of the networks are going to run this story??? I wonder if POTUS or AG are going to issue an apology??? :jester:

You just can't even make this shit up anymore. . .:help:

I don't think this was done out of the goodness of their hearts...it's more likely that the "investigation" was so bungled and tainted that even a US Attorney and a Clinton-appointed judge thought they couldn't twist it around to give the appearance of guilt without getting blatantly caught at it.

After a bit of thought I dont' think there will be any recourse. As far as the .Gov is concerned they were considered "domestic terrorists" and as such the Patriot Act and the NDAA apply. They could've been locked up indefinitely without a lawyer and nobody could say boo under our current laws. The POTUS could declare them an enemy of the state and then they'd be lucky if they didn't get visited by a few drones...

All of this teaches everyone a few lessons:

1) be careful who you talk to about your disgust for central government

2) be careful who your shooting buddies are

3) even if in private you consider yourself militia or a minuteman, don't talk publicly about it. And lose the Camo when you go shooting.

It has to be a bad case to get thrown out of federal court. Federal prosecution conviction rates are VERY high. If they want you bad enough to go to trial, they pull out all the stops.

The number or areas this applies is staggering and judging by what I have seen on youtube, completely ignored or to complicated for most.
