I'm looking to get a light for my AR. I'm torn as to what to get.

Tell us your current setup.

Home defense?

More details, please. How about what kind of hand guard setup is on the AR (rail or standard style hand guard)? What is the purpose for the AR (inside or outside use, home/personal defense, duty use)?

Sorry about that. I just had a wisdom tooth removed and the Vicodin kicked in and I posted before finishing the post. :alcoholic:

My intended use is personal defense. I have a Troy TRX handrail on my rifle. The delema I'm having is, do I want a floody light or a thrower. I have a Surefire scout that I am putting on the sg because I think it is better for close range. I'm thinking a thrower would be better for the rifle.

Specs on my rifle are: DD upper and 14.5" barrel, battlecomp 1.5, TRX hand guard and an Aimpoint PRO. It is a mid length gas system.
Thanks

What distance do you foresee needing to defend yourself at?

Not really sure but if I would have to guess I'd say within 50 yards and no more than 100

Ok... What's your budget?

If your primary use will be indoors I'd say flood, outdoors then beam.

+1. I have yet to find a light that does both well. Anyone find a light that has good throw and also flood?

My 2 cents, beam would be the best compromise. Beam reflects off interior walls illuminating the entire area acting light a flood.

I'd like to keep the cost under $150. I have a Vtac offset mount so I should be set there.

I have been thinking about a few options.

One is a 4Sevens G5 with pressure switch.
Two would be the Jetbeam III M with pressure switch.
I have a Fenix TK21. I think the G5 is about the same size, which is as big as I'd like to go, and is a better light than the TK21.

I do like the size of my scout and for indoors I think it is a great light.

Thanks for the info so far.

Surefire g2l in a gear sector or danger close mount. Elzetta is another great option but a bit more money.

A simple yet reliable solution. Works for a lot of folks.

many people prefer the G2X. G2L is 120 lumens. G2X is 240. much more usable light in the X version but may not be needed whether indoors or under certain conditions outdoors.

G2L is rated as a weapon light while the G2X is not, though many people use it as such without issue so far...

my particular G2L has a tighter beam than my G2X so that may be a consideration as well...

Good points. So far, I've ran into zero issues with my g2l indoors... Even while running my trijicon reflex sights.
