View Full Version : Muzzle flash damage to SF X300?

I recently picked up a SF X300 weaponlight and used it last weekend at
the range mounted on my M&P 45. I fired about 100 rounds. When I got
home I took off the X300 to clean the gun. I started by wiping down the
X300 with a towel and M-Pro 7 cleaner to clean off the carbon residue
created by the muzzle flash.

I noticed a few things. The top of the bezzel (which I believe has an
anodized finish) showed some discoloration which was bronze-like.
Obviously this was the area that came into contact with the muzzle flash.
It appears that some of the finish burned off. I don't mind it too much as
I can always touch it up with some paint. I was wondering, however, for
those of you guys that shoot your handguns with a weaponlight what
does the finish look like after several hundred rounds downrange?

I'm sure this will vary depending on how far back the weaponlight is
mounted on the host handgun (M&P 45 vs. a full sized Gov. 1911).

The second question I have is this- can the muzzle flash damage the
window (coated pyrex?) on my X300? I don't think the heat from the
muzzle flash can cause permanent damage to the window of my X300,
but I thought I would ask this question here. Thanks for any input.

I have had mine since early September and the finish appears to be holding up well. From about the "11:30 to 12:30" portion of the bezel it has taken on a dull matte color but nothing more than that. Definitely nothing to the extent that is concerns me. The lens is perfect.

I have mine on my duty Glock 21C and after each range session I take a papertowel with solvent and just run it around the bezel to clean it. Seems to do the trick each time as far as getting the "bronze" coloring off.

Trust me, it will not hurt anything.

My old X200A has seen at least 5-7 thousand rounds on my G19. It's getting a little ugly on top of the bezel and has even burned off all the finish. No problems though, it still works like a champ.
