Vltor Flash Hider Compensator Installation

I just installed Vltor Flash Hider on my 16" LMT. I experienced one problem - my 3/4" wrench nor the AR multi tool did not fit the wrench flats on the viltor.

I ended up using strap wrench to tighten the flash hider but it would be easier to get the correct torque by using the wrench. Is there a dedicated wrench for those flash hiders?

I've heard this is a problem and the fix I've heard most is to modify either your wrench or your DPMS style AR tool to make them fit. I would do a cheapo wrench personally.

I've got one on the way right now (the VLTOR FH/Comp, that is).

Did you use a peel or crush washer?

I used crush washer. I'm probably going to the range tomorrow to test my reloads and this new carabine.

While they take a little extra care to use without rounding corners or scratching things, could a regular old Crescent/Monkey/adjustable wrench be used?

one would think if you did use extra care it would do, but i would get a cheep wrench and modify it to fit. something from like harbor freight would only be 3 dollars ish.

I used an open-end wrench out of my tool box, I don't remember what the size was though.

I used a vise, cardboard and a 3/4" Craftmans box/open end.

Crush washer ... went in steps, got it to the timing point, reversed it off, cleaned and then red loctitied it on finger tight. Shoots straignter than I. HH

So what do you guys think of the comp itself? How does it perform?

I chronographed some XM193 and found that the Vltor Comp is about 100 (or so) fps slower when compared to Vortex flash hider.

Both guns were 16" with under 100 rounds through them.
