Ok, I’ve read just about every thread dealing with these uppers, but would like some options and user feed back on these setups. I’ve read the threads on the advantages of the mid-length over CAR gas systems and I’ve looked at the Chart.

The rifle will be used for range/hunting/home defense, and may do a couple courses since I found one near where I live. I have intimate knowledge of a Mil Spec Colt M4, so if you could make any comparisons to it that would be great.

All seem to be about the same price. Think I would prefer a Mid-Length gas system, but the LMT only comes in CAR. The BCM comes in a Mid, but sounds like they are hard to get. Is it safe to say that the BCM and the LMT are about par with each other, and the SDI falls in a close 2nd? For my intended use, would I regret a SDI mid, or bump up to a LMT CAR and just run a heavier buffer?

Thanks for any help.

Well, sounds like you've got it pretty well nailed. I would agree that the BCM is every bit the equal of LMT, except it is uncertain how long you would need to wait for a BCM as they are not currently available. I've read the Sabre is an excellent upper, except I could not tell you how it differs from the others specifically.

If you need an upper today, buy the LMT. You'll not regret it.

1) you wont be able to get a BCM anytime soon.
2) SDI is probably on par with LMT, so if you want Mid-length system...you pretty much know your own answer.

Guess your right Dave, basically answered my own question.

Then what about the SDI Stainless Steel Fluted in 16” Mid-length? Any benefit in going with the SS over a CM/chromed barrel other than the accuracy?

I'm in the same boat as you, looking at the same uppers. I spoke with Paul at BCM and he mentioned he should have complete uppers using Krieger ss barrels very soon. Presently only has the barrels listed.

I would also be curious as to opinions on the ss setup. Read the barrels 101 faq, but am not sure of the real world defensive applications.

Stay away from the SS 18" fluted Sabre barrels.... they shoot all over the place (:p )
Black Hills MK262 Mod1 "seconds" at 100 yards... According to Molon: An extreme spread of 1 MOA with a mean radius of 0.37".
