This is a WWI commemorative without a named battle. It came without a box and the finish is in good condition but with "flecks" in it, some of which can be seen in the pics. The "flecks" are not on the surface but appear to be in the bluing. They are NOT rust and I found no rust when I field-stripped it before taking it to the range. It appeared to be unfired. The only engraving is on the slide and is "gold" filled but some of it seems to have been lost for whatever reason. I bought it reasonably in a trade/cash deal as a shooter and it performed well when I put 100 rds. through it. I had three FTFs but almost all the ammo was lead truncated cone ammo very close to what is pictured below. I think one of my mags (and the bullet shape) may have been much of the FTF problem and the ammo fed OK when reloaded into the mag. I am very happy with this pistol and I intend to put many more rounds through it in the future. My gun dealer friend I got it from could not find this specific model in the Blue Book so if anyone has any info on this, I would appreciate seeing it. The grips are not WWI period-correct or commemorative-style so I suspect they may not have originally come with the gun. I am contemplating having this re-blued as it has no real collector value. The scroll on the right side of the slide says "1917 WORLD WAR I COMMEMORATIVE 1967". The serial # is 69** M2 (a space is between the numbers and the "M2") :D

Further investigation (help from my friends) finds that this Colt is a 2nd Battle of the Marne WWI Commemorative (circa 1967-69) missing the original grips, box and papers.
As far as I am concerned it is a shooter. :D

A nice looking shooter too. Don't worry about the flecks and grips. If you got a descent deal on it, blast away.

I've already changed out the grips ( I've got extras) and cleaned the pistol up. I'll probably put any re-blue on hold for awhile, anyway.
