I have seen Brownell's upper vise block, Squirrel daddy Pro Aluminum Upper vise block, the Claw by DPMS Upper vise block.

Here is what I was considering.

Would you leave the BCG in the upper to remove the barrel nut and install a DD nut for a DD 9.5" FSP Lite rail?

Thank you for any help.

I have had the best experience with the PRI upper vice block. It is designed for both AR15 and AR10 uppers.

So will the PRO Aluminuim Upper Vise block by Squirrel Daddy be fine?
I hate to know I bought the wrong type vise block.

I personally prefer the synthetic clamshell type as it positions the upper in line with the vise jaws. The dpms vise block is nice for a lot of work on the upper but I do not like it for operations where you may need to apply significant torque. As long as it is a milspec upper (with carrying handle or flat top) with no fancy design the clamshell will handle most uppers.

I would NOT leave the BCG in the upper - instead I'd use the special tool that is designed to go with the clamshell.

I prefer the clamshell style upper blocks. I would be very hesitant to the use the DPMS or Squirrel Daddy block if I was going to trying to loosen a tight barrel nut, or installing one. In fact, there was a member who broke his upper trying to loosen a barrel nut on the style of block the OP purchased.

Long story short, I prefer a clamshell style block.

Thanks for the responses.
I have decided to return the Pro Aluminum Upper & lower vise block and get the Brownell's Clamp Upper vise block.
Rather be safe than be sorry. Plus I want to do the job right and not half ass and risk twisting or breaking something.
