Thinking of chopping the fsp on a pinned 14.5 duty rifle and installing a longer Troy Alpha Rail. I was a little worried it wont be as sturdy as a pinned FSB. Primary optic will be an Aimpoint ML3. Is the rail sturdy enough that I dont need to worry about my front sight getting knocked out of alignment?

I don't know if anything is as sturdy as a standard FSP but I assure you the Troy Alpha front sight is solid. If you shave the FSP properly and add the Alpha rail, you will not have any issues. I have installed several of these.

The front sight will be folded unless your optic goes down right?

I have the 13" Alpha with built in flip sight.
The sight has left and right play once flipped up, this seems to be common from reading posts online. Maybe enough to throw you off 1" at 100yds.
It flips up to the same spot each time, but can move left if bumped.

Its not really an issue, but if you plan to use irons frequently I would recommend the Alpha without sight and add your own.

It is sturdy, but aluminum, not steel like a FSB
