Now that Glock perfection has come seriously into question. If I can't find an older gen 3 G19. What would you guys consider to be the next best option for a pistol that has preban mags available. I"m stuck behind enemy lines here in NY

Thanks

I like my M&P's damn near as much as my Glocks. If M&P had a model the same size & round count as the G19, The Glocks would spend a hell of a lot of time in the safe.

EDIT: sorry I missed the part about pre ban mags

Hey no problem. Thanks for the input. If I do end up having to scrap the pre ban mag idea I"ll probably have to swing to a .45. In that case I'd be b/w a m&p45 or HK45.

3rd generation S&W's e.g. 5906 and 6906. Absolutely sweet guns.

I just feel I need to throw it out there, but how about a Beretta?

Beretta 92 family. There are many variants that are better than the standard M9/92FS.

- 92G
- 92FS or G Compact
- 92G Elite II
- 92G-SD (if you can find one)

Also, 3rd gen S&Ws are very reliable. Same with older Sigs

USP's are a good option... I believe USP compact mags fit the P2000 series as well.

i'm not a the biggest fan of those downrated ban state mags... if this thing is going to get carry use i'd avoid them...

the glock 26 is 10 round from the factory. the hk p7 is 8 round... If i still lives in NY i'd probably be carrying one of those guns or a revolver.

Don't forget SIG P226 for your considerations list.

Is this for home defense or CCW (or both)? You can also go G17 (or keep the form factor and go to .40 S&W - G23) if you want to stay in the family tree, and stay with availability of pre-ban magazines.

As much as it may irk people I second this, depending on what purpose the pistol is going to be used for. If he is planning on running it on a drop leg... Even with my 17 I wouldn't mind a 92G model with a rail, might even take it over my 17 for certain purposes. Of course I would also take an H&K over a glock at times as well, I do love me my P7s.

Back in the bad old days of the gun and mag ban I could always find Glock, Beretta, Browning and S&W 59 series mags, for a price of course...

Being a former NY and MA resident, your options are:
1) Sig P226/228/229 (my personal favorite)
2) Glock 19/17
3) Beretta 92 (i had a sweet 92G elite that I loved)
4) Browning HP
5) SW 3rd gens

HK USP's are a no go because pre ban mags are not really available. (i am not saying they don exist, but the USP came out in like a few month before the ban went into play)

Don't hate on Berettas. I've never had a problem with my 92FS. But good luck finding pre-ban mags for 'em, though.

Really? I have had very little luck tracking them down. I've only found four in the last year or so. Perhaps I'm just looking in the wrong places.
