I am curious as to how rare are certain sizes of buck are made for 12 ga. I have found 000, 00, 0, #1, and #4 but no luck w/#2 or #3.

Those are the sizes that I am familiar with which are available loaded in 12 gauge.

The #2 and #3 sizes are available in 20 gauge. Custom loaders and handloaders some times assemble #1 loads in 20 gauge, stacking the pellets side by side, as #000 are in 12 gauge.

There is also a #0000 size pellet, which was used in the 10 gauge. I haven't paid much attention to it, and don't know if it is still available or not.

Due to the way that .25" (#3), and .27" (#2) pellets would stack poorly in a 12 gauge, explains why these sizes are not available, but as they stack quite well in a 20 gauge, they are used there instead.

I guess a 3 inch wouldn't change it much since the main deal is the diameter of the 12 ga to begin with. Good stuff.
