View Full Version : Short Barrel Long Rail and a Suppressor?

Hey Guys,

I have an LMT 10.5" barrel with a Daniel Defense 10.0 Lite rail that I would like to mount a suppressor on. Which poses a problem with how much barrel I have available sticking out of the rail.

You can see the thread are actually slightly inside the rail.

I would like to mount the new Surefire FA556SB that is 'Designed for barrels that are 10.5" or shorter'

Surefire FA556SB
Weight 21.0oz
Dia 1.5"
Suppressor length 6.75"
Added length to weapon 5.2"
Slightly larger bore to help out with unstable bullets coming out of of the extremely short barrels that can cause baffle strikes and is suitable for SBR full auto.

I was looking to use the Surefire Muzzle Brake MB556K-SB specifically designed to SBRs.
This adapter is specifically for AR's that have either a FSB close to the end of the barrel (like the 10.5 HK 416) or a rail.

Even the HK 416 10.5" has more clearance than I have.

I am just not sure how much clearance, if any, I need behind the muzzle brake. Wondering if I can get the can on with the current barrel/rail setup.

Has anyone done or seen anything like this?

Nice SBR. I would give Surefire a call to see what they advise.

I called Surefire Technical Support they were unable to help... :rolleyes:

not sure if this helps, as i'm running a mk18 rail which is 9.5 inches with a 10.3 barrel not a lite rail 10.0 and 10.5 barrel. my 212 can clears with a little bit of space between mounted on a mb556k-sb.

I would have expected better from their tech support. I wonder if you could use shims to install the brake if you're really close on clearance.

Worst case scenario, which would you rather have? That particular rail or the brake and suppressor?

Actually if I have too, I will grab a BCM 11.5" barrel.

Thanks very much for posting the photos. Your rail looks so close to mine. Technically you should have 0.8" vs. my 0.3" of barrel after the rail, but they look quite close.

I think I am going to have to mock is up with a borrowed mount and can.

Call the supressor builder? I dont suppose the specs are listed on there site? You could find out if it would fit if they were.

call for Barry Dueck at s/f he is the only shooter. all the rest are nice people but all techies not shooters. its kaliforni, remember ??

icall Grant he is the only 1 w/the parts to work this out. sure he will help.
also why not trim the for end by 1/2" or whatever to get it.

also lite wt bbls will not cause impact change if its a good can
i have s/f and knac's qd-4
lmt bbl lightened up by adco
d.d. 11.5" but not Germain
all zero's are repeatable on THAT BARREL with the SAME can.
all are NOT repeatable on all barrels at the same point. each barrel abd can arrangement is different.

I was wondering the same thing.

Specifically the 11.5" BCM upper with 11" Larue rail.

I hadnt considered shaving the rail down 1/4" or so.
Although it will cut into the last vent holes.

Deciding on an SBR upper is difficult
