I have two Glock 17s, one I use for HD and one for classes. I have the opportunity to trade one for a Glock 26, of which I am generally unfamiliar, having never shot a sub-compact. Worthy of a trade?

Do you have a problem concealing a Glock 17? If not, I would say don't trade. I have a G26 that I never carry because it doesn't conceal any better than my G17 and G19. It's without question my least useful Glock.

Dude, it's a glock! Are you really going to do so much Home Defending or schooling to wear one out realistically? If you live in that hostile of an area, I'd sell both guns and put on a down payment on a new house :)

All joking aside, it's a great trade. As far as cost between the two it's a wash. And i see a need for you to add a line of defense. Yourself! One Glock for School and Home, and one to carry to and from.

Good luck on the trade

You must be one of them "skinny guys:)" i can't conceal my 17 at all without an over shirt and a light overcoat.

But that's just me. 11 rounds of Wincehster Ranger T +P+ 127 Grain which is in the ball park of ~440 Ft-Lbs of K.E.! BooYaa

I'm 5'11" and 200lbs and have had no problem concealing Glock 17 and 22s, Sig P226s and full size 1911s in Texas heat with only a tshirt.

I'd say pass on the 26 unless you get a chance to shoot it first. I found that it was a real pain to hold onto without stippling. But if you don't mind the way it feels and shoots it sounds like a decent trade.

I carry a 19. I didn't know if the 26 was 'that much' different that it would be worth having.

IMO it really does carry better and print less than a g17 or g19. Ever had to bend down to tie your shoes or pick something up when carrying?

That shorter grip does hide better.

I have a 17,26,23. I'm 5'8 200. The 17 isn't the best thing for me for concealment and the 26 isn't really better than the 23. When I carry the 26 it's with Glock 19 mags. I'm very close to finding someone to trade the 23 to for a 19 to make my ammo purchases easier and recoil profiles the same for training. If you're not totally against a 19 maybe try finding someone who will trade one. Glocks are like the worlds currency it's all exchangeable you just have to find the right broker.

Presumably you have put enough rounds through both to know that they work, why not just do a grip chop to your carry G17 if it prints too much? First try making it a G19L and seeing how that works out for you.

I stated previously Glocks are like currency. But chopped up currency is worth less. If he chops it and hates it he now has a much harder item to move on the market.

If you have Glock 9mms that are not flinging brass at your head all the time...hang on to them like grim death.

The way things have been going lately in the world of Glock, I'd be concerned about trading a Glock 17 that is of known reliability for a Glock 26 that is if unknown reliability.

I like your current setup of two identical guns. One for training, and one for HD. I'm not so sure I'd be in any hurry to give one of them up. If at all possible, save up some funds and get a third gun.

I'm 5'11" and about 180lbs. I own the G17, 19, and 26. My favorite carry gun out of the three is the Glock 19. I could conceal the 17 with the appropriate holster, but I can conceal the 19 better.

If using an IWB holster, I gain nothing by going down to the Glock 26.

My G26 is either in a FIST kydex pocket holster, or in an Uncle Mikes vest holster attached to my soft body armor while at work.

A lot of the conceal ability of a pistol really depends on the holster/belt being used.

I had a G26 for many years and never liked it. I ditched it for a G19 and have never been happier. I would trade a G17 for a G19 for CCW.

I can conceal a G17, but I can conceal a G26 much easier - especially when carrying OWB.

I'm also one of those who can shoot a G26 a bit more accurately than I can a G17.

I think a G17/G26 combo is a good one.

Except for ankle carry or maybe pocket I can't see a 26 as really better than a 17 if you dress around it with a good belt and holster.

Good point. I didn't see that he posted that he carries a 19, so chopping up a 17 wouldn't make much sense, unless he wants a 26L and 19L of course.

Another point to make: for me at least, drawing a G26 from AIWB is slow and difficult compared to 17s and 19s, and doesn't really conceal much better.

I have run most of my clean or one miss FAST with G26's under 6 seconds (six of eight). I can't do any better with a G19. The G26 is incredibly shootable. IMO it's only in capacity of the first mag that counts against the 26.

Go with the trade, OP.
The versatility in having a sub compact and a full sized HD combo can't be beat. One G17 will take care of your home/training needs, but a sub can go with you ANYWHERE and most guys find them more accurate than their full boat guns.

I recently wore my G27 on in an OWB holster to a wedding under a sport coat. There's no way in hell I'd be able to carry my G22 without printing. But that's me.

Diversify, I bet you'll find you love your subcompact and end up taking it with you more often than its big brother.

I'd do it....the G26 is an awesome little gun.

Do you need a subcompact for concealed carry?
