I tried locating threads on both the DPMS and S&W MP15 sport - comparing the two but have not been able to

Is there a link or discussion that can be viewed?

Thanks

Use the orange search tab under the top banner and plug in your search query.

Yup. Search button. If that doesnt work, try googling m4carbine.net "topic of interest". So in your case: m4carbine.net dpms vs. s&w sport. To save you a bit of time thoug, dont even consider DPMS. For many here, like myself, with some experience with their rifles and parts, DPMS has literally translated to Dont Purchase My Shit.

I've been really happy with the quality and performance of my Wilson Weaponry SRC. I paid $850 for it at my local shop.

I guess it depends on what you'd like to spend. I had my sights set on building my own for under $700, but when I looked a little closer, I'd end up spending closer to $850 after transfer fees and gunsmithing/tools.

You could always build it yourself a little at a time thats what i'm doing. You will end up with exactly what you want and learn something in the process. Also tests patience

Don't try to search for a "vs" or direct comparison thread. There may not be one. Identify the models you are interested in, and trends within a line/brand. Then compare them yourself using criteria that meet your needs. Read the many stickies and knowledge base threads.

"Affordable" and "good value for the money" are subjective.

Buying the default choice, a Colt 6920, would be the easiest thing to do.

This place has lots of great info to help you pick your first rifle. I went here a lot before buying my M&P 15 OR. I got exactly what I wanted and now with a little over 1200 rounds thru it in less than a month I'm very happy with it.

With top notch ARs so inexpensive right now there's no reason to buy the low end stuff. Prime example is a Colt 6720 for less than $1000
. You get what you pay for.

There is plenty of information out there about good AR's that are affordable.

Please explain to the viewing audience why you need it now, and is there a reason why you need to act now? Could you possibly wait a couple of months to ensure that you get a good carbine?
