View Full Version : Mystery Part
Last night I installed a Apex FSS in my M&P 45. After I was done I noticed this tiny wire that I first though was a staple right where I was working. It is too finished to be a staple.
I've never taken down an M&P before and have no idea if if this came from the gun or the trigger or something else.
The gun and new trigger seem to function fine.
Any idea what it is??

Take a picture.
Sorry. Forgot to attach the pic. I think it is the retaining wire for the take down lever
It is the takedown lever retaining wire. They fall out pretty easily when you detail strip the frame.
Take your gun apart again. Rotate the frame to the left and watch your take down lever fall out! I lost mine after putting in some Apex parts and still haven't found it or replaced it.

Found it and fixed it. Thanks for the pointers.
Lesson learned; don't attempt this type of job at 12am. :)
PS: As a recent convert from 1911's, this was my first attempt at stripping and working on a modern polymer pistol. The 1911 is a much more simple machine;)

I was gonna say it's the staple from the package your parts came in :dance3:

Glad, you were able to get it back in. Sometimes those small parts can be a nightmare. Now you know to pay close attention to it.

I did the same thing on my first FSS installation. Figured out what the part was while doing my second install.
