Remington Defense has a new rifle hand guard called the RAHG, Remington Accessory Hand Guard. Remington differentiates its tubular aluminum hand guard from the competition in two major ways.

First, the hand guard will come in two widths, 2 and 2.5 inches, to accommodate shooters that want either the feel of a slimmer hand guard or the comfort associated with the heat dissipating qualities of a larger diameter hand guard.

personally i love the look of this rail. The barrel nut for this rail looks similar to that of the wilson combat trim and noveske nsr barrel nuts. If this rail ever hits the commercial market, i'll probably build another upper with it.

If this rail ever hits the commercial market...
Which, knowing the "brilliance" of Remington Defense, it won't.

If I end up eating crow, I won't mind too much because it does look like a cool idea, specifically the offering of different widths. :)

They'll probably hand over something that sorta looks similar, but is heavier, uglier and more expensive than anyone would have imagined to bushmaster and then tell them "here, give these to the civies".

Saw that earlier. Love at first sight. I always liked the RSASS and other Remington rifle's hand guards. My only thoughts are whether or not people will effectively utilize the wire guides. I want to see the 2.0 and 2.5 diameter on a rifle. I also consider that geissele has their hand guard coming soon... I'm pretty glad companies are jumping on the next evolution/generation of rails.

They've already started putting the XM2010 on the civilian market.

Definitely a good looking rail, the varying widths are an interesting feature

Remington says they should be shipping before shot show 2013. But yes, I am curious as well if these ever make it to the civie market. I just hope they're planning on releasing a line of direct-attach accessories such as a handstop or light mount to accompany this rail.

Geez, before long we're going to have like 100 different rail options. Each with it's own, proprietary crap to go along with it. Oh wait, we already do.
Options are good, but dang, we need some kind of standardization on attachments. I just dropped $250 on an NSR rail and I'm wondering how short-lived the KeyMod system may be. I was pretty happy with my TRX Alpha rails.

How is that relevant? do explain what advantage it would harbor. I mean, if you have stuff for it, and 1913's for bolting what's the problem?

Remington needs to put this out for the civilian ACR market forthwith!

I like it better than a standard quad rail but would still rather go with something like the Troy VTAC. I like how this one has lots of options for placing accessories w/o rails but looks wise it just doesn't do it for me.

Excellent! Good to see their HK416 offerings migrate to commercial sales.

I wonder about the final weights & cost ??

I'll bet you a dollar heavy and expensive. North of a KAC URX III on both would be my guess.

Remington's photos show it to be extremely thick. I bet weight is well above that of a LaRue quad rail, this is a boat anchor and your TRX is a thimble comparatively.

If Remington (and by that I mean Bushcrapper) ever releases this, it'll be pot metal/aluminum scrap, and weight 18 ounces without the cast barrel nut. It will cost upwards of $400.

Really? You can tell all that by simply looking at a photograph

It looks good. Hope it is as good as it seems to be.
It looks a bit like an MG42 barrel jacket.

Before you piss all over the Cheerios, why don't you put your hands on one and see what it's all about.

It looks similar to the geissele design, I wonder if they were invloved with the development?

Does anyone know the exact weights for each specific length handguard? I imagine someone affiliated with Remington Defense is a member of this forum...

I doubt it. Remington Defense has has similar designs for a couple of years now, as seen on the xm2010 & RGP carbine. I shot the RGP last year. While similar in design, the RGP uses a monolithic upper receiver. The rails look very nice, but I'll be curious what the new AR rail weighs with the barrel nut.

By that standard, it looks like the dozen other slick rails on the market as well. The primary difference with the Remington rail is how the rail sections are designed / attached.

For those that are curious, I e-mailed Remington Defense asking whether they had plans for the RAHG for the civilian market. This is their response:

We hope to have the RAHG released for the civilian/sporting market in the future but do not have any concrete timing or pricing on it for the commercial market at this time. When it is released for civilian sale, it will be posted to Remington's sporting website at www.remington.com

Very vague reply.

Pretty typical in my experience. You would see the same from BCM, Noveske, Magpul, etc. regarding new product announcements.

Sorry for the necroposting, but any word on availability to mere mortals (civilians?) of this rail? I like the look of it.

I wish Remington would just release civilian version of their Defense brand, I want an R5. I love this rail though

My interest, as I should have mentioned, is for my HK MR556. I do not care much for the shorter rail and have been spoiled by the longer rail on my DDM4V1. I like to run the rifle with the stock all the way forward and my arm out in the "thumb over rail" for good control.

Bringing this back since RD is retailing these to public. Anyone know if these rails will be sold too?
