View Full Version : 5.56 vs .223 ejection issues

I recently bought an M4 from Stag Arms. I've noticed that it short cycles on ejection when using regular .223 ammo. A friend told me that this rifle was made for 5.56 ammo, not necessarily .223. He said that 5.56 ammo developes more pressure than .223 and if I want to shoot 223 in this rifle I should get a softer recoil spring. I got some 5.56 ammo and have had no problem with ejection.
Does anyone have an opinion on this?

Thanks all -------------------

This has been covered quite a few times, might want to do a search for "short cycling", I know that vague questions can be hard to search for but I think that will turn in usable threads.

Are you sure it's truly short cycling?
What test did you do to confirm?
What ammo are you using?
What buffer is in the gun?
How many rounds do you have through the gun?
What lubrication method did you follow?
Did you check your gas tube, gas rings and gas key?
