It does not belong to me, but this was the first 1911 that I got to shoot when I was younger. It was also the first time I shot pistols thanks to a very generous Sgt. in the Army that I know. Basically he took me to an indoor range and let me shoot his 92FS and that very special Kimber--at no cost to me.

Not only that, he let me shoot plenty too. It will always be one of the best days of my life and it's one of the nicest things someone has done for me.

That there Kimber is a very limited production run made specifically for Blackwater. The Sgt. whom I went shooting with worked with them for a while, and he carried that on the job. I guess Blackwater let him buy it afterward. I'm assuming that this custom build is based of the Custom II line. It has all the modern amenities a 1911 should have, as you can see.

This is important to me because I would have not gotten seriously interested if it weren't for that Saturday. It was the shit! Someday, I plan to pay it forward to someone else.

My Grandfather bought this 1911 while on leave in Chicago (he was stationed at Bliss at the time) in 1934. This picture was taken of him after purchasing the pistol and walking out of the hardware store by a street vendor photographer - Popbill's best friend had the picture taken before they went to the saloon. 1934 was a big year for gansters, fedoras and double-breasted suits obviously ... he bought the pistol but left it there at the hardware store to come back and pick up before going back to the rooming house after the saloon. They ended-up not going back to get the pistol for three days - on the way to the train station.

Complete with two original two-tone mags plus another he had, and some old ammo ...

My first 1911. Bought it the day after the centennial. Wasn't trying to put together a MEU clone, but it's funny how Pachmayr grips give it an uncanny resemblance. Aside from the grips it's still totally stock and I'll be breaking her in on my day off this coming Monday.

Gallo Pazzesco, Very cool. Love the picture of your grand-dad. Hope that stays in your family forever.

Thanks guys.

Yeah, it's special to the family. My girls are all grown and out of the house but my 12 yr old son recognizes the importance of it to some degree already. I'm hoping he gets past the rough years over the next ten to 15 years and then realizes what it is all about. My Dad did not pass it on to me until I was 50 yrs old. I'll never see my Boy's 50th birthday so he'll get it earlier and, my Dad and I both hope it stays in the family for a long time.

BTW - recently received the Historical Letter, the providence from Colt. Took a looooong time and $100.00 bucks to get it. It validated everything Popbill wrote in his letter to my Grandmother about that weekend in Chicago by verifying the hardware store where it was sold in Chicago. I've still got the original hand written ticket (receipt) as a matter of fact. Pretty amazing how much those things sold for back then. He paid $27.00 for the pistol brand spanking new in the box with the two tutone mags.

Because yours and ours are different models. Your gun is a commander, so it requires the round hammer. Ours are the Government models and they come with the spur hammer. Notice that your grip safety is different from ours, it has an upward curve. The Govt. have the original style grip safety.

It doesn't matter, we are ditching our factory hammer anyway.

Thanks for the reply. Where can they be found or purchased?

Thanks

To my knowledge & understanding they cannot anymore as they are out of business.

I was lucky enough to find some of them in all alone in a vendors box he had at a very large Gun Show. You may have the same good fortune don't know how many are still out there etc.

Many have copied them, just w/o the holes.

I'm hoping someone will replicate them in the near future as they give a clean/even break across the whole trigger face where your index finger digit "pad" interfaces w/ trigger face rather than on the more limited concaved curved portion of trigger face surface.

When Videcki retired he sold his tooling and designs to Greider Precision. In a sense, Videcki became Greider.

Greider is the OEM for many of the 1911 triggers on the market, including a popular flat trigger. Wilson Combat also sells a flat trigger although I don't think it is made by Greider.

LOL, I know exactly what you mean.

I spent a lot of time cogitating & ruminating to dial in exactly what I wanted to have done.

So far there is nothing this pistol can't do that I need it to.

The way it looked before Chuck did the surgery, it's like two distinctly different guns. The transformation is remarkable.

The amount of melding, attention to detail, fitment of components & intricate nuances of chamfering/melding/radiusing he did to make it consistant are just incredible. I'm glad I listened to every suggestion he made. Well worth it & no regrets. I spent 4 hours w/ it the other night just dry firing, sight pictures etc. Feeling it as if It were a Samurai Katana bolted by hand over a million times etc.

The pistol & his work far exceeded my expectations. I have several 1911's as you mentioned. Chuck knows how to "love them" like no other. I'm grateful he tolerates me.

Chuck's da man....

Thanks for the kind words.

thanks, I am really starting to come around to appreciate the 1911, this guy is currently working through the 2k challenge and doing surprisingly well. I would like to try out some of Chucks sights at some point, my only gripe is the front sight being a little low (my other option would be bumping the front and rear up in favor of the higher 10-8)

Jim, it is a Dawson, and as soon as I can find where I sat my leather IWB I can give you more info. Other than that I have a kydex i made for it. I doubt it would fit in a non-railed kydex, but maybe a looser fit railed one. A simple shim in the mold would fix it.

Sweet rig there. Is that a Dawson rail? I'm thinking of adding one to my SA Loaded.

How about concealed holster fits for the rail?

Jim

A well broken in leather holster, they can go quite well. My TRS with DP rail went just fine, after a dozen draws it boned itself in and now runs just fine.

Kydex, less direct. It would be possible to get something moulded just for that, or try and adapt a railed dust cover unit, but I'm so happy with my Sparks VM2 holster I simply haven't tried anything else.

Thanks for the reply. Been thinking about adding the rail to my SA Loaded but was holding back because of the holster issue. I use it for County ERT as well as CCW.

Thanks,

They look to be either Simmonich Gunner Grips or the VZ Recons which are extremely similar to the Gunner Grips.

Strider's version of the Gunner Grip.
I wanted original Simmonich's or the VZ's version which are very similar but I ended up getting a good deal on the Striders. They work fine so I never felt a need to switch em out.

Difference is the Simmonich & VZ have a circular dimples cut into the grip and the Striders have more of an oval dimple.

The edges are relieved just like the original 1911. Hardly a butcher job. The light makes the facet on the lower edge appear bigger than it is.

Here's some pics of an original, and the edges on my commemorative are cut exactly the same. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=224480202

My new baby. Picked it up from a member here and I'm very glad I did. :)

Nighthawk Enforcer. Must've been built right after the switch from the Vickers model to the Enforcer because the frame is marked with one of the Vickers serial numbers. Clean frame with no markings, finished in Diamond Black. The jury is still out on the crimson trace grips, but I'm leaning towards changing them out. Eventually I'll switch the rear sight for a 10-8 and have a flat trigger installed.

Here's my SA Loaded...had some trigger work done on it to get the trigger weight down from the factory 5.5-6 pounds where it was, down to 4.25. SA replaced front sight and now it is a nail driver. Just had it out at the range today after getting it back from SA. Wow, it's more accurate now than I'll ever be, that's for sure. I also got rid of the FLGR the other day.

I agree, but it's good to be able to enjoy Johnny Walker Black, that stuff is sold all over the world and a lot of the time, it's the best option.

1911s and cigars go well together.

Last time I ran a 1911 at an IDPA match, I was enjoying a Churchill of some kind and didn't want to put it out. I stepped up to the line...

RO- "Shooter, do you understand the course of fire"

Me- "Yes sir"

RO- "You gonna smoke and shoot?"

Me- "If that's ok with you"

RO- "Ok, load and make ready...."

I never win anyway, I'm just there to shoot the gun and it gets me out of the house on a Sunday morning.:big_boss:

Diggin the sights on the x-tac man. Like the frontstrap treatment as well, how well do the cocking serrations work? Kinda liking that whole pistola.

How is that Smith running? My next 1911 purchase is going to be their 1911sc two tone I think.

Just had my big dirty thirty birthday and decided to get myself something special to celebrate the passing of my roaring twenties. Being all grown up now I needed something classy and sophisticated, yet full of every day usefulness. I wanted a full size 1911 for every day carry.

I happened to luck out and find someone who was selling a brand new 1911 set up in just about the coolest way possible. Here's what I saw:

Nighthawk Custom Enforcer
Caspian slide and frame (w/integrated mag-well)
Clean slide (no markings on either side)
Diamond Black finish
Heinie night sights
Crimson Trace laser grips

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e5/jakjakman/Saddleback/xSDC11764.jpg

I'd never used Crimson Trace grips before and decided to give them a shot. After some range time I felt they didn't work for me and on top of that the laser module prevented a full fit in the VMII holster. Off came the lazorz and on went some 10-8 signature grips. They're a bit rough on the hands during extended range time and under the shirt, but they provide a concrete lock up in the grip. The scoop also makes it quite easy to hit the mag release.

Heinie sights are nice, but 10-8 sights are nicer. :) I've always like the U-notch and the aggressive curve provides a surface for one-handed reload/malfunction drills. I do like the dot-over-dot configuration of the Heinie night sights, so I sent a 10-8 rear sight off to Tooltech Gunsight and had them install a tritium vial at the bottom of the U-notch. Perfect.

I'd gotten used to the flat trigger on my other 1911 and now I really like the feel. I had Steve Morrison from Mars Armament drop in one of his flat triggers in addition to switching out the sights. I can't say enough good things about Steve and his shop. They do excellent work and he is one heck of a nice guy.

So here it is all done:

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e5/jakjakman/1911/xSDC11810.jpg

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e5/jakjakman/1911/xSDC11816.jpg

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e5/jakjakman/1911/xSDC11832.jpg

So, "how's it shoot," you may be wondering. Well, let's just say that even after I removed the Crimson Trace grips it's still shooting lasers. :) Here's the original factory target:

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e5/jakjakman/1911/xIMG_0826.jpg

Yup, that's three shots right through the same hole, and she still shoots the same way. Having a 1911 set up just the way you like makes shooting drills a real pleasure. Here's a typical failure drill from concealment at 10 yards at normal speed from a few days ago:

Thanks fellas: Rodger Kotanko from DARK did the work. Very talented Smith up here in the GWN. I don't say this lightly but the fit and finish is nicer than my SA Pro Model, the carry bevel is perfect...it looks simple but she did get the full house treatment. My camera work does not do the Black/Blue finish justice. Now to run her HARD.

My humble submission.

Caspian Race Ready frame, Caspian slide.

10-8 Parts- grips, sights, slide release, trigger, recoil spring plunger.

EGW Parts- Ultimate trigger kit, single sided safety, hammer strut, pin set, HD extractor, firing pin, barrel bushing.

Nighthawk Parts- barrel, grip safety.

Wolff Springs.

All work done by Bob Howard Predator Custom shop. I just picked it up today. My crappy photography skills do not do this build justice.

I started with a Caspian slide and Fosters frame with ball cuts and Heinie sight cuts. I used a Kart EZ fit barrel, EGW bushing, CMC grip safety, EGW thumb safety, Harrison design solid trigger, EGW slide stop and mars armament mainspring housing. Ignition components are an EGW sear and ball head disconector and a Wilson ultralight hammer.

Oh the possibilities...to screw up

The FS has XS Big Dot Tritium sights and it was a great choice IMO. The HS got an extended slide stop. Both have ambi-safties, almost a requirement in case of off hand shooting.

I ordered my TRS on a Tuesday from 1911 Heaven and picked it up from my local dealer two days later. Now that's what I call service. Fortunately, Crazy John had one in stock. I just spent a week at Front Sight Training Institute and after four days I realized my PII just won't cut it for me as a true carry. I'm going to keep it in case I decide to do competition shooting. I decided to sell my Colt 1911 because I kept getting hammer bite because I have an old injury to my right hand that prevents me from using the recommended grip. I was going to replace the stocks on the knife with matching TRS's but they were a bit pricy. They cost almost as much as the knife itself.

Been trying to get this super for about 10 years & finally got doc to turn it loose...doubt anyone would know smokey from Zapata but he was a smith before his time. Used to crop dust too & has since past. I miss my friend.

Caspian lw frame and colt slide...nothing 80's in it with a ramped clark bbl. Yes, I know i butchered the safety but I'm a lefty and the prickers at the ranch knock it off. Had to go with kimber because of the skinny grips and think they are the only ones who make that tounge and groove set up.

He does not remember how the stain got there but it's my daily and can get over the newness asap and get ready for the corners to start wearing.

Impeccable Mr. Rogers, absolutely impeccable.

Perfect amount of dehorning, wonderful balance. Retains the classic 1911 lines but you know it's a joy to handle. The bob job on the nose is great looking. The accuracy of the machine work is outstanding....the ball cuts are perfect. The coating is a great color as well.

Just great....outstanding.

That's is a fighting pistol that is a work of art.

I'm assuming it's permakote? I have an Enforcer and Talon II that are permakote. They aren't wearing as tough as NH would make it sound, and that's why I went with Diamond Black on the GRP 9mm I'm waiting on. I'll have to post a pic of it once it comes in. Hell, I'll have to post pics of all my 1911s (Colts and NHs) once I get back stateside.

I agree, it's most likely permakote, as I've heard their ion-bond/black diamond finish will basically go for thousands of draws/presentations without marring.

Whereas after a hundred or two just at the range yesterday and mine's showing silver. I have a single stack .45 in the next month or two (I'm at week 12 of 18) that's in diamond black.

Ultimately it doesn't really bother me since I got the gun third hand, and it's been well used, so it was never meant to be a show-pony, but rather a beater.

Long time lurker. First time poster. My very humble contribution.

I know some here are not exactly Kimber enthusisats, rounds 1- 325 were rough, but it got much better and has been good to me through 2100.
MilSpec was great out the box. Only additions were Heinie's, VZ's, and a C&S trigger job to reduce that heavy factory pull.

Not terribly different from some others I've seen posted here, but it's everything I want or need in a 1911.

Basic stock MC Operator with 10-8 Performance Gen.2 slide stop and magazine release, S&A magwell and VZ Grips Operator II grips in 'Dirty Olive.'

Hi PatEgan, it looks like it has a thicker barrel bushing. Or is that the factory one? Nice fightin' 1911!

PatEgan

Thanks. That's the original bushing, no aftermarket stuff up there.

Yes, the little oak leaf was perfect for covering the serial number...No, I wasn't trying to get all Old Testament on you...;) But come to think of it, maybe I should have staged that shot on top of the bodies of some fallen Philistines or something...

Mine was on back order 9 months, but I'm patient and feel it was worth the wait. It's extremely tight and the trigger is a new favorite pistol trigger. The only problem I had was the windage being way off--out of the box it was shooting consistently 4" to the left from 7 yards. When I went to fix it, the set screw was turning freely. I guess whoever sighted it in forgot to tighten it... Anyhow the 5 or 6 magazines it's run have been great with the cheap factory ammo I used. I think Sunday I will get some more rounds through it.

Thank you gentlemen. Pictures really don't do this thing justice. The reset on this thing is sick. Almost to a point where it is scary. The best 1911 I have ever owned.

found this at a local gun shop the past weekend. unbelievable price, original owner put about 300 rounds through it. i sacrificed a hk and a cz for the cause. i have fired a lot of 1911's from stock ones and semi-custom, to full custom and this is wicked accurate and the lightest recoiling 1911 i have EVER shot. let a friend shoot it and he was surprised, it recoiled less than his compact 9mm. sorry about the crappy cell pic, i will eventually get better photos.

not a fan of the adjustable sights but they work fine. i am thinking about picking up another down the road for a spare, this has been that good so far.
