nice.....even the top grip screw is still in the same orientation as the magazine pic!
My mild OCD would require those screws tomboth have the same orientation! Preferably level with the deck!
I won this thing in a raffle. Not bad for $20.

Do you have a fav?
The Vickers Elite is basically a CQB Elite. The beavertail grip safety is clipped, medium length trigger not sold on the gold bead front sight yet.
I traded off the Hackathorn because the concealed grip safety didn't sit right in the beefy web of my hand. I traded off the Protector Elite for the X-Tac for some EDC. It ought to shoot like a 22LR as heavy as it is.

Hah, good one.
Hey they got it open didn't they?;)
Opposite end of the spectrum; Nelson .22 upper, Caspian build frame (1.75# trigger), Leupold DeltaPoint (or whatever it's called).
It'll shoot an inch or under at 50 yds. with match ammo.
Great for sight picture/trigger control/fundamentals practice or introducing new (younger) shooters to the platform.

Sweetest .22 ever! I have a Kimber .22 1911 that is pretty good but I have become frustrated over the years with semiauto reliability in .22. Pistols in particular can be picky about the type of ammo. I have come to the point where when I really need it to work for sure, I will lightly lube the ammo. Sounds stupid and wrong but it works.
I had trouble with the new frame too Ned.
About one choke 'n puke per magazine makes it about effing impossible to focus on shooting a group.
What I found; the mag release shelf/ledge (that holds mag in place) was holding the mag too high- it was spring the ejector up- and causing the malfs.
I found a few, old mag releases in my parts box, tried them until I found one that worked.
Prior to this I was CERTAIN the issue was related to too much MS tension or RS weight. Wasn't the case.
And thanks for the compliment, high praise from you.

RWH, that is nice.
Do you have a fav?
After shooting the X-TAC Professional Commander in 9mm and the Vickers Elite in 9mm, I concluded the Vickers balances better in my hand than the X-TAC 4" HEAVY barrel.
The X-TAC shoots without much snap from the muzzle forward weight, About like a 380acp.
I have not shot the Vickers Elite Black Series in 45acp.
My opinion has come to, If it's a short 1911, make it light. 1911 is 5" all day, every day ALL Steel.
thanks for the info.
While I don't have WC, I do have a alloy frame DW Commander Valkyrie in 9mm. It is very easy to shoot and carry all day long.
Finally a pair again. RMR mount is on order, I plan on sending the GRP off to the mothership for a trigger guard undercut (to match my 10-8), RMR install and blackout nitride. But it'll be a while, because everything costs money...https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180626/cd881c486dbf60b43d10c0e0801af839.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180626/80a10c92d60f2d04a80a7e791ab91324.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180626/393eb74f36e3a6364e7a1b8db673fd47.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180626/8e981d7953a657cb1dcec192c8ead38d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180626/00fe890283fd770e44dd66f511630955.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180626/589ae4ca88243bfb30fe5110ad494267.jpg

I look fwd to the final mods on your NH!
eBay! I set a notification for "10-8 1911" so anytime that comes up in a listing I get notified. I really wanted the super scoop version, to aid reach of my dwarf like thumbs, but these popped up and I wasn't going to let them escape. Sometimes after a few drinks I think about taking the Dremel to them for a diy scoop, but luckily haven't been that dumb.

Oh No A carry. All my weight is barrel chest and belly even though I have lost 70lbs. Both hips replaced I can't wear IWB at 3-4 oclock. OWB at 3-4 or OWB crossdraw only on the appendix side. S&W J frame in a DM Bullard crossdraw, shirt drapes right over the roundbutt. I have not bout one for my Shield yet to try it. I used to Mexican carry appendix when I worked dope.
That looks so damn nice and clean. No clutter, K.I.S.S. Thumbs UP Sir.

I'll play. Here's my Kimber Custom II. Cerakoted in burnt bronze with some VZ Recons in dirty olive. The only other upgrades I've done are Meprolight night sights and an extended slide stop. I love this pistol.
Recently milled slide for RMR on converted 1991 (to "70 series").
For me- the RMR has advantages, particularly precision at distance. The trade off is much higher maintenance, cost and additional training/muscle memory to find the effing dot at speed.
Fun range toy however.
Not sue it's worth the trade off, I still shoot irons well.

Chuck, I see it says "Factory Comp" but ain't no comp ever came from no factory so perfectly matched. Did you re-match the Springfield bit or is that comp, made by you? Really nice.
Thanks Ned!

^^ While this is a very nice pistol. it's NOT a 1911. Actually more closely related to the P-35 Browning I'd think.
We do have standards to maintain here. (:

Top view…. This is not really a full custom, but—I thought it merited the logo.
https://i.imgur.com/zgviti6.jpg?1
A little bit of a magwell job. Frontstrap checkering had to be done over the existing vertical serrations it came with. Sometimes this works, sometimes not….. in this case the existing serrations were very well centered and consistent. I checkered at the exact same LPI they were at—which came out at 17 ¼.
https://i.imgur.com/1rROK9B.jpg?1
Fiber optic, per request. Front sight is made from scratch (prehard 4130). I wanted to have one that was less snaggy than what’s available and maybe more durable—even at the expense of less light having a path to the FO shaft. In the end—I think it works at least as well as those available and is much more durable. The sight is T-slotted in from the front and cross-pinned with two 1/16 split pins.
https://i.imgur.com/YgJJv4V.jpg
Before refinish. Finish is Brownells Baking Laquer over manganese phosphate on the steel parts, BL only on the aluminum parts. Yes, I kinda would have preferred a re-anodize but with few reliable sources, and considering time, and money—we didn’t do it. Anyway there is still plenty of anodize left where it really matters, like rails and feedramp. The grip safety is an aluminum one from EGW and the MSH is the plastic factory original—here again I cut the checkering in to match the original serrations which came out to something 18.6 LPI. Gave it a nice radius at the bottom, checkering stopped short to go easy on clothing. This also makes it very comfortable to handle.

The main impetus for work on the above New Agent was to improve on the groove-only sighting system, which is..... well.... not as good as having sights. By quite a margin:

Still makes me curious if there is possible merit in running a slightly larger ridgeside set in the back, then trying to shove a really low profile front sight (basically the smallest that would accept a tritium vial) that is anti-snagged as much as possible... it's still going to be a sub-optimal solution, but I think the biggest limitation on that is just that without a good front reference point, it might as well not have a sight. I'd rather hold-under with a sunken sight but have a better lateral reference.

I think that's a very viable idea. Indeed i might have done something more along those lines but one thing in play here was eyes that are over 50 so I kinda stretched things from "anything would be better" to "has to be quite a bit better".
The groove as a sight is practically useless and I note that in searching for a pic of it on the Colt site, they seem to have dropped it-- good. It was good for nostalgia only.

Man, that's a great pistol. I hope it brings you many years of enjoyment.
Thanks, It certainly is something I have wanted for some time and I have carried 1911s for years so I sold some other firearms that were collecting dust to buy my dream carry gun and it has exceeded my expectations just attention to detail is superb. Hoping to run it in some classes in the near future when time permits.

You have any difficulty in transition from the G17 to 1911 in terms of the substantially different grip angle?
I’m talking in terms of rate of fire/accuracy.

Not that I’ve noticed. My 1911 times are just a tad slower but I attribute that to the manual safety, iron sights, and unfamiliarity compared to my Glock. That being said, I shot about 400 rounds through the RO, then went back to my Glock and noticed that I was having issues finding the dot on it, which hasn’t happened in some time. I wasn’t sure why, but maybe that’s part of it.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
My version of this is a lifetime of 1911 familiarity and making a transition to a P10c with RMR.
While the CZ grip angle is less severe, more similar to the 1911 than Glock, it's still been a problem.
1st shot draw with 1911 average .9 to 1 second (I'm a lot slower than 20 yrs. ago), while the RMR CZ is a bunch slower. Once I "find the dot", rate of fire isn't much different than the 1911.
I keep telling myself that repetition is the key.
The trade off is the precision at distance with the RMR.
Shot a match last week a 55 yd. stage, 12 targets/24 shots. I had 1-C, 23-A's on the stage- I don't shoot that well with irons.

Who did all of the work? That looks like a Springfield Loaded base.
It's a TRP.
All I had done is swap the rear sight for an old 10-8 rear sight I had on hand. And I always replace 1911 grip screws with 10-8 GI grip screws.
And I had replaced the recoil spring with a left-over from a SiG 1911 that I had a couple of years ago and a spare Wilson Combat plug. And since that was a, "for now," solution, I then ordered a 10-8 guide rod and a 10-8 plug. And while I was at it, I figured that I might as well get a 10-8 trigger, too. (I'll probably eventually get a 10-8 mag release, too, because I've gotta catch 'em all.)
The Magpul grips are on it because, in my giant bag of 1911 grips, I don't have anything with a cutout for the SAI ambi-safety - except some black VZs, and I don't care for either black grips on a black gun or black-and-gray grips, and they cost me just over ten bucks (and they're another for now solution, while I wait for another set of VZs). It did occur to me that it would have been cheaper to buy a single-side safety, fit it, and then I can use any of the grip that I already have, but... oops, I guess.
I just put it all together today.

Well I’m not sure if I gotta an under powered unit...... I have to get super close to flys to kill them with one shot!! Otherwise I’ll hit them and they’ll go down...... 10-15 seconds later they’ll fly off!
So it maybe time for an action/Trigger job!

Started out as a 38 Super, then 38 Special and then a 45 ACP. Basic gun done by Richard Curtis of El Reno. This one has won me a lot of Gold.

Seems like a good time for a couple pictures of my two 1911s.
Ed Brown Special Forces, worked over by Alchemy Custom with a new trigger job, a few small parts swapped out, and the magwell was blended to the frame. Hard Hat coating by Dan Severns

Full-house custom from the ground up by Alchemy Custom. Caspian frame/slide, Kart barrel, EGW internals, Wilson magwell, etc. She's my "Stainless Supergrade".

The key to acquiring the dot is consistency and flat presentation.
As someone with older eyes transitioning to dots we have a tendency to “cast” a bit more than we think we do with Iron sights. If you flatten out that presentation and stop a bit short of full presentation the dot will be there. The RMR also makes things a little harder. Closed emitter sights like the ACRO or those like the Trijicon SRO which mimic tube sights are a bit quicker and easier to acquire since the “tube” provides some additional visual reference for indexing.
The above has helped me get my dot times identical to, or within .10 of my iron sight times at close range.
Have you tried turning off the dot and seeing how much of the time difference is 1911 vs P10 instead of irons vs dot ? They can cut 1911s for dots .....

Go into Photos (if you have Windows), above the image select the Crop icon on the right. Then select Rotate on the menu on the right side of the screen. Then save it. You can also rotate pictures in Paint. When posting a picture from a URL, I deselect "Retrieve remote file and reference locally". If uploading from your computer, I have no idea sorry.

Thanks, the photos are correctly turned on my laptop (Mac), but when uploaded they get turned sometimes. Still not sure why some are small versus the larger versions as shown here. Thanks for the assist.
