I bought this nice HP at a gun show and sent it down the John Norell and had him refinish it with his Moly Resin finish. I just got it back and I have Meprolite Night Sights on order..-----[:D]

Here you can see how the MK II slide was slotted for the MK III sights.

DAMN YOU, JOHN -- you own all the nicest 1911s, and now you're Bogarting the Highpowers as well! :)

Nice Roscoe by the way.

Very pretty. Of course the obvious question is how much you have in the girl?

I like it but what makes it Israeli? Did I not look hard enough at the pics?

I paid $350.00 for it and it cost me $95.00 to have Norell to finish it.. I don't remember what I paid for the night sights, but it was about $75.00, so I would up with a very nice MK III HP just over $500.00, a very reasonable cost........

If you will look at the markings on the front of the left trigger guard, you will see a Star of David and a Hebrew letter. These HPs were made for the Israeli police.

Here is a shot with the night sights intalled...

Sweet!

I have the same identical Hi-Power and had a Cylinder & Slide hammer/sear/spring kit installed, a flat black teflon finish and a set of Herret cocobolo grips. Also fitted an extended C&S safety.

It is the most accurate 9mm pistol I have ever shot. The trigger is VERY 1911-ish - short and crisp.

Every time someone I know says they want a 9mm 1911...I show them this pistol. Why the Hi-Power is not more popular in America is beyond me.

What a beauty, with a little bit of history adding to the cool factor.

Do you have any pics of it before you had it refinished? I called royal tiger imports, they had them some. The only ones they had left were the one that cost $550 and were already refinished.

unusual that it would be marked with the letter "ayin" considering it is a placeholder for a vowel mark. can you find out (or do you know) what agency in particular this hp was made for? i'm curious now...

Very good price, in fact damn good, and the star of David on it would have made it irresistible for me. I have a lot of respect for the Isrealis, know several who now live here.

A High power is still on my list of guns that I will own before I die, that a P7M13, and a M1 carbine and Garand to name a few.

I've always loved the HP. It was my 1st centerfire pistol, which I bought with my boot camp check. My only issue with them is hammer bite. If I ever have another one, it'll have to get the Novak beavertail treatment.

That sure is a nice one you have there!

It also has a letter in Hebrew inside the frame. This is a cast MIII frame with a modified MK II slide that still has the hole for the old sights and does not have the mill cut for the trigger lever. So it is a hybrid.. I shot it before I sent it down to Norell for the Moly Resin finish. And it was accurate and reliable..

The original finish was some sort of black epoxy but underneath there were no dings and the gun had not been fired much... I bought it off a table at a gunshow here in Missoula..

I have always and still believe that the old P35 Browning Hi Power was and still the best single action 9MM!!!!

An oldie, but a GOODIE... Wood and steel..... What God meant guns to be made of!!!

that does not appear to be hebrew lettering inside the frame - not sure what it is, but it certainly has no meaning to me.

could you take a closer photo using the macro mode on the camera perhaps?

I wish I could find some good, lanyard cut wood grips though!

Everything I've come across is thrashed and too expensive.

I like the wood stocks because they are thicker which fits my hands better. I cut the notch in the left grip for the LL stud... Also, it has an FEG safety.... I removed the mag safety and adjusted the trigger pull for a crisp 6 lbs, which I prefer for a "working" gun...

And here are a MK II, a MK II 1/2, and a MK III...

Yeah, I actually noticed that those were modded after I posted.

Mine is accurate and reliable, but I don't like the trigger reset... which I've heard gets worse when the magazine safety is removed. I would like to have a slightly larger safety lever, since it kind of drags more than pops...

I don't know about Mark-whatever or anything, but I think this one will stay as is for a bit... except for some new grips. :D
