Sold my old AR and funded my new 14.5 Mod0 BCM. It came with a continuous 11'' Rail. Previously I was running a carbine with a fixed A2 and a fold down rear Troy. I loved the Troy but I was really impressed with the DD rear.

So here's my question. For owners or those who have used this set up, did having a fixed rear sight/front sight get in the way of using your optic ? I know this probably sounds silly but I've always thought about this. The only time I ever ran my Troy was to zero it with the Aimpoint unmounted. Thanks and sorry!

No. Assuming if you use a T1 mount that will bring it up to a lower 1/3 cowitness with the irons. I do NOT advise you to absolute co-witness irons and the T1.

I have used this setup on several guns and do not see the reason to have flip down sights.

Not at all' I've got the T1 mounted on my DD with fixed sights and using the DD T1 mount it gives me a lower 1/3 co witness. Looking through the T1 my eye is quickly drawn to the red dot but I can conciously switch to the iron sights if needed.

Daniel Defense Fixed Sights + Aimpoint T1 + Daniel Defense Aimpoint Micro Mount

There fixed it for you. ;)

This is what I run. It's GTG.

I have used the DD fixed sights with T-1 in a DD T-1 mount for the 1/3 co-witness. It is simple, light, and works well for me. Most others I have seen using a similar setup also like the T-1 used in conjunction with the DD 1.5 rear sight.

It's really not a big deal to leave the rear sight up. With a red dot, you're focused on the target, not your sights, and they just fade out.

Furthermore, if you need your backup irons, you'll need them immediately. Whether in a self-defense scenario or competition, if your red dot dies, you probably won't have time to flip up your backups.

If i is a fighting gun, or a self defense gun then it should have fixed sights. If you have flip ups then you should run them in the up position all the time.

Yep, FFP, H-1 (lower 1/3) and fixed DD rear. No problems at all.

why...

I leave flip up buis in the up position all the time so its always ready to go....same as leaving an aimpoint on all the time for quick response.

this is my favorite combination - T-1 on a DD lower 1/3 mount and DD fixed rear...

I have the same setup - T1 in a DD lower 1/3 mount, DD fixed front and rear irons - on my V7 and it is my preferred setup as well. Irons definitely will not interfere w/ T1 if it's in a lower 1/3 mount (I've never tried it in an absolute mount).

For an unmagnified RDS, overall I prefer fixed irons, and if I had foldimg I'd leave them up anyway.

why...

Because anything can fail.
Last year during a shooting on the move class we were doing some timed drills. The timer went off and a friend of mine started the drill. Problem was he had been fiddling with his rifle and turned off the aimpoint. In this example it was his fault and nobody would have gotten hurt. But what if it was a life and death situation?

By having the irons fixed and ready to go, they are there when you need them. And in a lower 1/3 setup they do not get in the way of your RDS.

Agreed. It's not the only way to fly, just the best! :D

I've been using the T1 with the DD 1.5 rear sight in a 1/3 cowitness for several months now.

You think the front and rear sight will be distracting at first, but you quickly learn to ignore them.

At some point you also begin to appreciate the fact that your rear sight is always there ready to go.

There's a stickied "cowitness" thread in the Optics & Mounts subforum, plus the boilerplate of this topic having been done before AND being discoverable using the Search features.

The folks rogering up to the ones that post these rehashed topics.... and that have been around long enough to supposedly know better, already...should be citing such things.
