At work I stumbled across this micro slick stuff from cerakote, supposedly it helps with friction resistance on bolts and carriers. Does anyone have any first hand experience with this?

The Military Arms Channel did a review of cerakote and the bolt was also coated: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1Z_Zv2ue-w

The thread here on that same review and some details and photos (yes, of the bolt too) is here: https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=101214

MAC does a great job, and im very impressed with what he did to that gun. My question is was his bcg micro slicked or just standard cerakote.

Well i took the plunge and i had my bcg micro slicked. I am now in the middle of the 5 day cure so this weekend i'll install it in my rifle and see how it runs.

Used the Micro Slick on a 700 that I built a few months back and I dig it. Not sure how the AR would feel, but I say go for it. CeraKote makes some quality stuff.

Micro slick intrigues me - but scares me.

I would love to get the entire inside of my AK done so that all the corrosive ammo and blowback from a can cant mix with the guts, but I would hate to have an entire rifle coated and have it start failing and killing the AK.

I'm the same way, i am very curious to see how it runs, but i have a spare lmt bcg just in case.

here is the tech sheet on the micro slick

Have you had any range time with that bcg yet?

You shouldn't have any issues with the micro-slick...Its even thinner than standard H-series cerakote, and I have applied H series to many customers' bcgs over the past few years with no problems. If H-series is applied correctly, it too is a very thin coating... and very slick in its own right when "burnished" or compressed.

I am wanting to do this....how easy was it to apply?

NGA did this for years on all its bcg's etc.

I believe it helps the bcg and has no bad side effects. In addition to the carrier, we coated the bolt, extractor, ejector, cam pin and even rings. The main benefit is the item stays cleaner, is easier to clean and needs less lube.

Coating the entire inside of the receivers and buffer tube, action spring and buffer is also beneficial for the same reasons.

The only trouble we've had with microslick was on trigger groups. Looking back, it was stupid to coat these and we stopped doing that during production of the X7. There were a couple of instances of S3G Geissele triggers doubling and we're nearly certain it was due to the coating.

As I said, it was stupid to coat them in the first place.

NGA always oven baked/cured, so these comments may not apply to room temp cured microslick.

Any pictures from shooting it yet? I think this is a great idea and i want to try it on my bolt carrier. I wouldn't waste the coating on the cam pin - you are still going to get the"mark of zorro" swirl no matter what you put on it (i bought a titanium coated cam pin and it didn't take 100 rounds for the swirl to appear).

I would prefer it in rattle can, its just easier, if they come out with that I'll give out a try. I can't see spending $300 for fail-zero when people have reported seeing it flake off...

Ok I finally made it to the range this morning and I managed to put 400 rounds of umc and 120 of pmc with no lubrication and no malfunctions. Did not clean it, all I have done is wiped it with a paper towel. While there is some wear on the carrier rails and the "zorro" mark on the cam pin, it is very impressive how well it performed.

The finish is slick to the touch, and has a grey-bluish color to it. Very very easy to clean, when i wiped it down with a paper towel i was suprised how easily the gunk came off.
AirMech74 It was easy to apply, just degrease the hell out of it, spray it on with a HVLP, and then airdry for 24 hours, then wait 5 days to fully cure.
bobsolla It was $45 to have it applied, Chris Michel of Dixie Gunworx in St. George Utah is who did my bcg, rifle, and glock for me. PM me if you want his info.
I wish i had a better camera than my cell phone to post some better pics to show the details.

Still no malfunctions of any type. Ammo used has primarily been pmc and remington umc with some tula and m855 mixed in. Overall i like it, when it come to wear resistance i dont think its as good as fail-zero, EXO, nickel-boron ect, but it does the job. It is very cost effective, easy to apply, and very easy to clean up.

So im seeing a little wear, but it is in normal places. the thing about the microslick that most impresses me is how easy it is to clean. All i've used is a paper towel.

I cerakoted my upper and it does seem smoother. I always forget to oil my BCG. It ran dry all those time when I forgot to oil it. I was using steel cased ammo too and it still ran fine.
