After a bunch of research and reading I think I have decided on the LMT CQBPS16 AR platform. I was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with it.

Things I curious about are:
1. How do you like the barrel swap option?
2. Have you put the 6.8 SPC barrel and bolt in it and how does it shot?
3. Have you put an 22lr conversion kit in it and how does it shot?
4. Have you put the .204 Ruger barrel on and how does it shot?

Any positive or negative feedback welcome.

There's a metric frack-ton on info on the LMT MRP series rifle here. Use the search function first to see if what you're looking for has already been asked and answered.

Oh I have been. But still have a few questions, hence the reason for the post.

I have the MRP in standard length and another in rifle length.

They are top-notch. I have no complaints about the LMT MRP's whatsoever.. iMO they are worth every bit of the extra $ they command.

The barrel changing option is great, if you plan on changinging barrels it is the way to go.

Buy, shoot, enjoy.

I shoot the LMT Piston in 12"chrome lined sbr and 16" DI stainless barrel and BCG . I love the rifle and have about 6000 rounds through the piston barrel and 750-1000 through the DI SS barrel. I prefer the piston setup. The recoil is almost identical in both and the piston keeps the BCG and lower fire control parts much cleaner. The DI gun will run fine clean or dirty so it doesn't matter, I just prefer upper and lower stay cleaner. The piston has extra parts that get dirty but they are robust and stay hidden under the rail. It is the nicest rifle I own and is a keeper! Disclaimer- I am a firearms dealer and sell many brands of ar15s including LMT. The MRP is my favorite.

After a ton of research I purchased a LMT CQB MRP, I love it! It is everything I was hoping it would be, I researched the AR options available for several months before making this purchase, Like an above poster stated there is a ton of info out there! The caliber change option played a part in my choice, it's fast and easy, (though the torque wrench is a cheapy).

Buy it you will not be sorry or dissatisfied!

1. How do you like the barrel swap option?

The idea behind the barrel swap is cool, I do not use it very often because I do not want to have to re zero my optic and iron sights each time.

2. Have you put the 6.8 SPC barrel and bolt in it and how does it shot?

The factory LMT barrel is Spec one if I am not mistaken and I have found spec one ammo a little more difficult to locate. Because of this I have yet to try it out.

3. Have you put an 22lr conversion kit in it and how does it shot?

No experience

4. Have you put the .204 Ruger barrel on and how does it shot?

No experience

Other then that I love the rifle and have had zero issue other then magazine failures. If i was to do it over again I would probably go with the DI gun for a little less coin.

I just got my own LMT CQB twelve days ago. I started collecting handguns 20 years ago. Until a month ago, I have no interest in any AR type rifle. Then one weekend, a group of my friends and I went shooting in a private land owned by another buddy. They had with them 4 ARs and a WW2 carbine. When I got home, I started looking at AR and more AR rifles. I actually just got home today shooting 200 rounds of problem free rounds. I love this rifle!!

You guys that get MRPs as your very first AR are pretty much ruined.....i ran 6520s (1 kiss/1 optics ready conv.) happily until I got my first MRP, at which point for myself at least I stopped looking at anything else...pretty sure I'll run MRPs til their being removed from hopefully my wrinkled old dead hands:cool:

While I won't tell OP to go Search Off.....I will recommend that the best way to learn about the rifles in question is to simply do a search on here, then read the MRP BADNESS threads on the kiddie site, and then top it off with a google session. There was a time when MRP info was next to nothing on the web a few yrs. ago, but now a search will yield all you want to know and perhaps more.

eta....great pic dohc, you can spot the talented photographers on M4C usually by just looking at their watermarks. One of these days I might get me one of those nifty things in my pics:)

I was very lucky in getting an LMT CQB MRP (DI) for my first AR15, and after discovering this forum, BOY did I make the right choice! My 18" LMT SS barrel finally arrived & I had a chance to do my first barrel swap - 2 minutes later I had a 2nd rifle. While I don't plan on any caliber changes yet, the option of using the 18" SS barrel for longer range bench stuff & using the 16" barrel for HD, SHTF really appealed to me right from the beginning. For me, the only thing I needed to do with the stock LMT was to change the trigger to an SSA-E & buy as much ammo as my wallet could afford.

MWC...I've shot a 18" SS barrel now for 3-4 yrs. solid, and it has shown no signs of letting it's uber accuracy go. The single cut/hand lapped Rock 5R SS MRP barrels are perhaps the finest crafted barrels I've seen with detail. My 5R SS barrels take like a patch to be cleaned...and that was since day 1. Hopefully your new one will give you as much as mine has.

I'm curious however if your 18" you just got came in the "LMT blackened" finish like all the MWS SS barrel options come in?

Also can you tell me the imprinted specs on yours? And does it have a star marking in the chamber?

Thanks in advance:)

Trident - Mine came in straight stainless finish with only the following marked on the top rear of the barrel - "MP SPR 1/7 SS".
I can get a pic up later if you want, but it's 90 degrees here in downtown Cleveburg so I'm spending the day in the pool drinking Bombay Saphire & tonic.

Outstanding gentlemen...sometimes a good forum can deliver exact answers that were requested, and on top of it do it in mins. or hours.

Seeing that both you guys got Rock 5R SS models makes me feel warm and fuzzy again about this topic...might not last forever, but for today at least all is right with the monolithic universe:)

So many unique aspects of the MRP barrel, be it the angled drilled gas ports, superbly designed super lopro proprietary gas block, the unique perfectly straight gas tubes that index into the chassis, but having them being always spun by Mike Rock is perhaps the biggest advantage to the MRP barrel. As usual I got caught rambling on about MRPs :p

Thanks guys for that info, and it's awesome to see you both get a real piece of fine china with those two barrels. I have copious amts. of accuracy evals. on tons of factory .223/5.56 ammo through both the 16" and 18" models, as well as a significant amt. of velocity data on them. Feel free to hit me up and I'll hook you up with all that data.

I got a rifle length MRP earlier this year, but I've too busy to run it yet. I ordered a red dot for it this week and hope to run the gun in the next couple of weeks. Looking forward to it.

The Dealer I bought mine from in Grand Rapids Michigan had just gotten 5 or 6 MRP's in the day before I picked mine up. He already had 3 or 4 other LMT's in stock.

As far as weight goes it's a tad heavier than my buddy's DD Middy, but not enough to affect it's usefulness :-)

In my opinion, the LMT is the most versatile ar out there. I don't do barrel swaps much but when I do, it can be done in a couple of minutes very easily and you have something different to shoot. Right now, I have the 10.5di, 12in piston and the 16in mrp. All in the cqb. I would love to get one of the 16 or 18in stainless barrels to swap out but have not gotten it in yet. It is on order but where I ordered it from has been out of stock for awhile now. Might have to cancel and buy one of the new used ones I see on the ee occasionly. Anyways, I love mine and if I had to keep just one or two of my ar's, the LMT's would be the ones I would have from now on. The 10.5 would be the one out of all of them that I would keep forever. Very accurate and point ability is incredible. I got a TB 30BA to put on it and it works great.

This is one occasion where a bunch of pics of a rifle is very much warranted and informative by itself.......LMT being cool guys that they always are doesn't even have glamor pics of their LM8 line.

Damn I bet that chassis is in a league of it's own in terms of the machining and overall finish. So many reasons why these are at the top of my list to name them, but suffice to say that you sir are one lucky bastard at this moment in time....please enjoy that rifle for the both of us:)

Been down this road it SUCKS! I got me a bunch of replacements and a new wrench, **** the supplied wrench. Its not good to leave a torque wrench loaded and they tape and set it for you. Which means they have a skidmoor they are setting them all on before they ship them out. The torque setting are not repeatable when you dial up the values due to the substandard nature of the wrench. Thus you have a loaded wrench and the torque values will decline over time.

The machining is fantastic. The handguard is so small, it's easy to wrap your entire hand around it. The only negative thing I can say is that the upper had to go back to the mothership briefly because the dust cover wouldn't stay closed. Also, I did break a bolt during one of the first barrel removals. LMT took good care of me though.

Sweet mother of pearl....hell I don't have words for what these new LM8s will be in about 6-8 months once some folks kit them totally out. Hopefully here soon I'll start off about a 2 year period of exclusive LM8 exploration. Starting about 3 months ago all my AR pennies have gone/will go exclusively towards my end game...LM8 twins (LM8 MWS/ LM8 MRP).

Imagine how many L129A1/MWS rifles LMT has had to produce every day over the last 6 months or so in order to have absolutely zero resources or abilities to launch what will be such a special, and one of a kind rifle in due time.

Sorry to hear about your dust cover issue...and scanning for MRP talk daily it appears that LMT screwed the pooch and did this one particular wrong machine work on both the standard MRP CQB/Stretch chassis, and now from your report....the LM8 CQB chassis. No doubt I'm sure it's all fixed, but I can't remember the last time LMT screwed up several rifles like this. I've seen a number of MRPs over the years including one or two of my own that had dust covers that were real PITAs to close, and require slight sanding of the detent/pin.

Thanks very much for those great pics, and again congrats pal. I'd pay to see a 10.5" in that chassis...just tossing a little offer out there;)

I own the 16" MRP Piston.

I've shot between 13k - 15k rounds through this weapon. Mostly Tula, Brown Bear, and Wolf. It is hands down, the most reliable weapon I own - even out performs my AK clones.

I don't really care much about the barrel swap option, as I shoot only .223/5.56 through this weapon. Removing the barrel does make it easier to clean all the gunk left over from a case or so of dirty Russian ammo.

Beware of the provided torque wrench that is shipped with the weapon. It is complete junk. Those barrel bolts are designed to snap if overtorqued (as to not ruin the upper) and I've snapped a couple when the provided wrench did not "click" at 140 in/lbs. I bought a Snap-On wrench which works much better.

I did have some carrier tilt issues early in the life of the gun. If you search TOS's piston forums, you will find my post and pictures of the issue. The carrier tilt managed to knock the buffer retaining pin out of the lower and lock up the gun. I replaced the tube, retaining pin, and installed one of Slash's anti-tilt buffers which solved the problem. Most other users don't have problems with carrier tilt, so It leaves me wondering that if my M&P 15 lower is the cause.

Groups are 1" at 100 yards with Hornady Steel Match 75gr. Recoil feels the same as its DI counterparts.

My favorite thing about this gun is that it can digest any ammo that it is fed. Even mixing brass/steel won't stop the LMT. None of my DI weapons can even compare when it comes to reliabily shooting crappy ammo.

I literally just got home from picking up an MRP. One thing I noticed is that the dust cover won't latch closed. As you say above, should I try to sand the detent or contact LMT? Does it matter that I purchased from a private citizen? I have never dealt with LMT CS, are they good?

I did..! I work for a local g.s. LMT has just released the LM8 uppers for sale this past week. I got a SLK8 upper w/ 16" Bbl. As well for possible 3gun matches or just because I'm a sucker for the lm8's. I now have the 5.56 guns to match my LM8 MWS. As much love as I have for KAC... I think I'm digging the LM8's a bit more! Still gonna hold onto my KAC SBR's though!

Did anybody ever come out with rail covers or other LM8-specific accessories?

That's perhaps the nicest pair of rifles I've seen. Just amazing sir!

If I could only have two rifles for the apocalypse...guess who I'm pm'ing

Seriously though what base isn't being smothered by one of those two rifles. Pure perfection!

Mother of God. I think you just breathed new life into my LM8 That's currently sitting unused in the safe.

Thanks Brother. I've been waiting a long time for the LM8 chassis to be sold separately. I've had a factory lower just sitting in the safe for it.

No. This can is actually the 762 QDC CQB, and it's one small package. This configuration is 300 blackout (I love the modularity of the MRP).

The 762 CQB is about 1" shorter than the full length 556 QDC.
