Note the hand seperation. It was the last time Arthur J. had that issue.

This is quite possibly the largest collection of photos of me anywhere on the net. I guess that's what I get for shooting next to the cameraman.

The class was run at C2 shooting center in the VA Beach area, on what turned out to be a rather warm day. Topics covered followed the course description pretty faithfully:

This class is an entry level course for handgun shooters and is designed specifically for those who have not had any formal instruction or those who wish a refresher class. Topics covered include the following: safety, stance, grip, sight alignment and trigger control. Familiarization with their service pistol includes field stripping and maintenance. In addition to this, other topics that are covered include reloads, draw and introduction to different skill drills including dry fire and bullseye shooting. Principles and theory were in accordance with what one would expect from a VSM course.

The class size was particularly small (five including Matt, who also picked up camera duties), and my classmates were all pretty friendly and easy going. There was one revolver present, one M&P, one H&K, and a trinity of Glocks. Holsters included a Safariland ALS, a few Spectre Koncealment items, and...some others. I neglected to thoroughly interrogate my classmates about their gear, so hopefully someone else will chime in.

Following the safety brief, intro, and a bit of discussion, we started the hands-on portion of the class with a skills assessment. Fundamentals were discussed, demonstrated, and drilled over the remainder of the morning, with relatively few rounds fired. We resumed after lunch with another skills assessment, which served to both measure progress and restore focus. This second assessment was particularly useful to me as a student (vs. the initial assessment which I would venture is of more benefit to the instructor), alerting me to the fact that was still mentally out to lunch despite having returned to the range. Reloads and drawing the pistol (5 step) were covered in the afternoon. Following instruction on reloading students were alerted that they would be responsible for keeping their guns loaded at all times, whether that meant loading between drills or reloading during a string of fire. Around this time we also transitioned to a hot range. The remainder of the class was spent shooting a variety of drills and assessments, with individualized instruction/correction as needed.

Chris took a decidedly humor-infused approach to the instruction of this class. While he didn't hesitate to joke around, he also demonstrated a serious side when the situation dictated. As this was my only experience with Chris, I can only speculate on where the balance typically falls. If I recall correctly, Walt and I were the only guys there who didn't already know Chris; this may have influenced the approach. I have no particular complaints about it, although it is a bit tougher to shoot accurately while laughing.

Round count came out to 216 for me; those who were more faithful to the doctrine of 'slowing down and getting their hits' may have fired fewer rounds.

VSM Basic Handgun was held at C2 in Va Bch, VA.

Class started about 0930, and for an hour or so we had a safety brief, discussed gear and introduced ourselves. Class size was a little smaller than usual since this was my third class with Chris I appreciated it. I always enjoy receiving more attention as I am still trying to learn how to run my newly acquired Glock19 (e.g. In prior course with Chris, I've shot a SIG228) & I simply need more range time with it. Additionally, I also ran a Spectre Concealment Holster and it function like a champ - ok, so I own 3-4 of his holsters for other guns and I'm convinced Chris is committed to developing quality gear and it works well for me.

During the day questions were encouraged, and the time seem to fly by. Chris paced everything nicely throughout the day and was very informative while running us through some excellent drills. Overall, excellent class - thanks again a great time and solme solid teaching.
