View Full Version : Need advise on 100-300 yards optic
I'm looking to get a scope with the shooting ranges between 100 to 300 yards. This is going to serve a recreational purpose only and I'm not planning "to kick doors" with it :) It's going to be mated to 16" AR with SS 1/7 barrel.
I'm currently choosing between Leupold 2.5-8 and Nightforce 2.5-10, most likely from as a package from LaRue site. Can anyone comment on either of scopes?
Thanks,
Igor
The NF is better glass. Both work and are likely much better than needed for recreational range shooting.
You might also consider a lightly used 4x ACOG... They are great scopes and very rugged... They will also more than meet your needs...

I run a NF 2.5-10x24mm NSX on my recce. The resolution is the best Ive seen on a rifle scope. You won't be disappointed with this choice. Just make sure you choose a reticle you like, since there are lots of choices.

IMHO a 1.1 x 4 is a perfect optic for anything 300 & under. Nice and smalllish for CQ but you can still reach out & touch someone if you have good dope. All you need for the longer distances is a semi-nice spotting scope.
Millett DMS-1, 1-4X, illuminated circle dot, $200 !
Guys, thanks for the feedback!
I know that both Leupold and Nightforce are the overkill. So is my rifle :) At the same time I would like to buy it once and do not regret it in the future.
Will 4x be sufficient shooting paper targets at 300m?
