I tried searching and couldn't find exactly what I needed. I just had the warren tactical sevigny competition sights installed on my G17 but my buddy did not put the fiber optic rod in the front sight post and left that for me to do. What should I use as a heat source for the fiber optic rod? Thanks!

This isn't for Warren Tacticals, but I found this video very helpful.

I just use a cigarette lighter to bubble the end, push it through, cut it about 1/8" from the sight, and bubble the other end with the lighter again.

Also, you can buy the F/O rod by the foot from hobby shops for dirt cheap, don't get suckered into paying $5 for a couple inches of the stuff. It tends to break from time to time, so have extra on hand.

I use a Mini Bic Lighter.......because it fits in my parts box easier than a big Bic.

When you use your heat source do not put the fiber rod into it.

Apply the heat source close to the rod and allow the heat coming off of the flame to melt the rod.

Use a nail clipper or VERY sharp scissor to cut the rod ends. You can also use a new razor blade but it is easier to use a nail clipper.

Make sure you install the fiber rod from BACK to front, meaning you push the rod through the sight the way the bullet exits the barrel.

Bubble the "viewable" end of the rod first and pull it into the recess in the sight.

The "best" fiber optic sights are the ones that have a countersunk hole to allow the fiber to sit recessed in the blade.

I just used Dawson's method to install a fiber optic rod in a Wilson front sight. Pretty easy. Thanks for posting the video.
