Anybody know if this is true? I thought Hornady Critical Defense didn't pass FBI protocol.

I was talking to a state police man , standard issue is critical D in 40 cal and stand issue gun is the XD 40 . He said some barrics are switching to critical duty which is not on the dr Roberts list mainly because it is so new for 2012 .

I'm in PA and friends with a number of troopers. 45 Gap is the pistol of choice. I will check on issue ammo in the AM.

OK now the guy is saying it's Philadelphia PD that issues Critical Defense. How it it possible if CD doesn't pass FBI protocol?

Nope he says they (PD) is fixing to go to C Duty soon but as of now they are using D defense.

some barrics are switching over to the critical duty, in fact many use the critical defense as is .... Also according to the horses mouth.

The last I knew the PA troopers were carrying the .45GAP, which doesn't have loads available with the CD bullet.

No, they do not carry the CD ammo or issue it for duty use.

I was starting to second guess the guy's motive he kept changing this statement. He says the cop told him that some precincts carried CD while others didn't. I would think a large PD has ammo contracts and that it's not up to each precinct to get ammo contracts.

Such information is best sought from procurement agents or quartermasters, FI/range staff. I'd be hesitant to get it from line staff. I once asked a LEO about his duty ammo and he handed me a mag loaded with a few different rounds, including ball. Just sayin.

I'd never rely on it from the GP, "some guy", or the internet.

Many state purchasing contracts are available online, as well as those of major subdivisions. They are often informative.

Didn't NYPD issue FMJ well into the 90's? I don't believe FMJ would be within FBI standards

Did anybody ever do barrier testing on C defense, other than clothing?
Windshield, wallboard etc...

Yes, they did, because HOLLOW POINTS!!!! are EVIL!!!!!! They now issue the 124gr +P GOld Dot.

Detroit still issues FMJ, but they at least went to EFMJ when that became available.
