Many devout fans of the 10mm love their Glock 20, myself included. So when I heard the Generation 4 version was released, I jumped at the chance to pick one up. I really like the Gen 4 grip on my other Glocks and I thought it would be especially helpful with the recoil of some hot 10mm rounds. Turns out I was right.

I ordered the gun the day it came out and had it in my paws the next day. I cleaned it, lubricated it to specs, turned the rear sight around (I don't like the Glock sight picture), and patiently waited for the weekend to put some rounds through the beast.

Pros:
-Glock grip angle helps absorb the 10mm recoil (one man's opinion)
-Cost: many other 10mm pistols sell for double what the G20 sells for
-Accuracy: the gun is more accurate than I am
-Positive ejection with both hot and weak loads
-Easy to maintain
-Gen 4 grip surface helps keep a firm grip on the gun, even when your hands are sweating
-Low bore axis helps tame the recoil
-Lots of aftermarket support (holsters, sights, ect....)
-100% reliable so far

Cons:
-new to the market so heavy recoil springs aren't yet available
-the finish isn't the old glossy Glock finish of a few years ago so finish durability is unknown

Heres a video I did to show the firearm in action. I do some shooting, demonstrate the ejection pattern with hot ammo, a 15m group, table top review (with part numbers), and some chronograph testing.

Chronograph data:

Temp––90 degrees with 80% humidity

Prvi 180gr JHP: 976fps, 381ft/lbs energy
Underwood Ammo 165gr Gold Dot JHP: 1372fps, 689ft/lbs energy

Much better in my opinion. My opinion---if you're going 10mm, the G20 is the way to go....

Bren had too many problems back when. Glad I didn't buy one. :big_boss:

I just bought a new Gen3 G20SF today. I've been wanting one as a big brother to my 29SF for backpacking and jacket weather CCW. In the 13 months I've owned my G29SF it's become one of my most carried CCW guns. This little bastard will do everything.

The cool part is, I have a G21 with a very beat up frame. Now I can swap out the uppers and have a new G21SF too. You just gotta love big bore Glocks!

Could you tell us where you got the pistol from or where to find more info on this? I cant find any info on this pistol anywhere, not even Glocks website.

Sure. I picked it up the day it was released from Eds Public Safety in GA. There aren't many out there thats why I did the review with such a low round count---most people had never handled/seen one so I just wanted to get some basic info out there.

The finish is one thing I'm a fan of on late gen 3s/gen4s. It's grippier (IMO) but isn't as wear resistant.

Congrats on the new pistol. Does the Gen 4 recoil assembly reduce recoil compared to the Gen 3 version?

You got that right. I've put more scratches on my Gen 4 in three days than I have on my Gen 3 RTF2 in three years.

I received my Glock 20SF with a June 13, 2012 test fire case in the box. It looks exactly like the one in the pic at the beginning of this thread. How do I tell if mine is G3 or G4? Would they make G3s and G4s at the same time? I was under the impression mine was a G3. ???

it says gen4 on it if it's a g4. also has replaceable back straps.

i have a gen3 g20. good to hear the finish is more durable (not to diss the op here)

and underwood ammo is nice n hot. i got some 200gr xtp hp's that are faster out the pipe than hornady 180gr xtp off the shelf stuff:D
their shipping is high though. a $25 box costs $12 to ship, so it pays to get a lotta stuff from them

Very subtle changes if all one can see is a pic. :) i looked closer and can see the differences. Does the G4 come in G20 and G20 SF?

No it's a Gen 4. You can tell by the mag release and texture of the grip.

Also it says "Gen 4" on the slide.

It's hard to say... I ran a 20lb recoil spring in my Gen3 so it's not an apples to apples comparison.

Interesting. I wonder if it uses the G-21's RSA or Glock beefed it up for the 10mm?

It's the same 0-2-7 spring as the 45ACP.

Makes two of us!

And that's only because S&W won't bring out the 10mm in the M&P line.

Is Glock still making the two frame sizes with the Gen 4?

If not, which size is it?

Nice to see that they are finally out. I'll wait a little to see how it pans out.

Thanks for the review.

I have always wanted a 10mm, and I love Glock. My Glock 19 gen 4 has been 100% for just over 2700 rounds.

Thanks for posting pics brother! Sweet pistola!:D

How's she holding up? I've been toying with the idea of getting a G20 for years and the Gen4 might be what pushes me over the edge.

Good so far. The slide is currently off at Lonewolf getting some fitting done for their 6'' threaded barrel (lockup was a little too tight for my liking so JD and his boys are fixing that). I'll probably run it like that for a while until I get my suppressor stamp back :D

How did I miss this thread???

I was planning on buying a G20SF but if these are out...I might have to buy both!

Thanks for posting.

I've wanted a G20 for a while now. All I see are Gen3. This may be the gun to bring me back to owning a G-Lock.

Any updates to this thread? How is the Gen4 G20 working out for folks?

Howdy,

Just read this thread and didn't realize it was 2 years old until the last post.

Nothing wrong with it being two years old and being brought back up.

I have an old made in March 1993 G20 with over 7,500 rounds through it ranging from very mild 155gr LSWC to max power 180gr JHP & FMJTC loads without a hiccup.

My fave carry old is the old mid-90's Win 175gr SilverTips. They clock around 1235ft/sec out of the factory barrel.
